Is trading that hard? Or are people that stupid?

Yes, you can study for two years and know 'everything' about the market inside and out. But, the real learning starts when seemingly every trade you touch turns to shit; or you got some initial gains, but now your equity is slipping to your initial stake (or below), or every time you decide...

    Down days

I don't believe longer time-frame trading is any easier in this regard, since instead of losing days you now will have losing weeks or months, since the trade durations are longer and thus you'll get fewer trades per week/month.

    I spent 2007 paper-trading...ready for real time?

You already know the answer to your question. The only way to find out is to do it. Whatever obstacles you will face with your real account cannot be overcome with any further papertrading.

    Death by 1000 Cuts

If your entries are half-decent on some momentum, you may want to look into splitting that 2% initial risk into two trades: take one off the table once its up 1% (so it equals the stop loss amount on the remaining trade) and then either set the other to breakeven or leave it as is. I use this...

    Pyramiding/Adding to a trade

I trend trade with pyramiding at fixed price increments along the trend. Each pyramid position has its own stop-loss level so that positions don't accumulate losses in retracement, and if the trend continues I re-enter stopped out positions. This has allowed me to realize 50-100% of capital...

    Job Satisfaction -

these questions about what is meaningful and exciting to do for a living come about because times are cushy and we live in a bloated economy, so people have the luxury of generally pursuing what is 'rewarding' to them during a depression these are not as pressing concerns as much as "how the...

    Forex Daytrading a Losing game?

The only thing long term charts (daily +) offer is that the spread (if that's what your broker charges) is less in relation to the movement of price. But with some pairs (eg eur/usd) the spread charged is so small that even 5min charts can be traded. The advantage with smaller time frames...

Boot Camp: Any PC user switched to Mac?

I occassionally run Tradestation on a a macbook 2ghz using vm fusion and it works great even in emulation mode, and even in their Unity mode (windows apps ontop of OS X without the WinXP desktop visible). A Macbook Pro with 2 gig ram would be well enough for this.

    15 minute open range scalp

Just keep in mind that backtesting shows a fixed 1 pt target with a 1 pt stop loss for a 15-min ORB strategy is a losing proposition (ER2 over last 4 years.) Therefore, the success you will get will be purely discretionary (taking small losses instead of the 1pt loss, sometimes letting your...

    Simu ER2 Journal

You should open a real account at Oanda for say $1,000 and practice on that instead You may be developing bad habits trading a sim account since you know it's not real money

    Looking for some advice.

I suggest getting as high a degree as you can (at least a masters) in a hard quant field, or an MBA from a top school if you can get in You can study trading from books and the internet on your spare time during college, start with small accounts and try to grow them slowly

    Attention Swing Traders

That's kinda funny actually... I trade the er2 on an intraday trend basis, and I constructed my method to either take the original stop-out or trail at the retracement "waves" of the market. So up until yesterday I had about 15 losers in a row, and an open trade was 3 points in the money...

    Psychological BS?

The problem with that is that if your trading plan is a 'living' thing you'll constantly make changes to it, and you will doubt it all the time. You'll start taking losses and revise your plan, only to take more losses while the original plan started pulling winners. Try taking 15 losses in a...
