    Borrowing from 401k?

True..but at my firm, and I suspect many others, finance is not a prerequisite. You'd be surprised how many Physics geniuses convince themselves that they are smarter than the market and end up imploding because of this hubris.

    Borrowing from 401k?

I agree Steve, thats very high...higher than a Sallie Mae loan if you were to borrow to pay that back...which at one time I was considering. I actually found that getting a Prime Equity Line of credit was much cheaper for that.

    Borrowing from 401k?

One more thing Options Poet/Risk Genius...Something about this site...people spend more time picking apart questions and highlighting selections as you do and copy/pasting them so you and others can harp all over them, to prove they are superior or smarter, or simply more clever than the poster...

    Borrowing from 401k?

Options Poet, what in the world are you talking about? I just thanked you for your advice, sincerely. I guess since this is a forum, it has to be like every other forum out there in cyberspace where there has to be the tough guy who puts the smackdown on me and throws out the staple "this is a...

    Borrowing from 401k?

Thanks for the answer i wasn't looking for. Please, i'm not looking for advice on the wisdom of doing this, but the legality. Let's face it, your 401k is severely limited in what you can invest in, in my circumstances its terrible mutual funds only. Put some of these funds in a regular brokerage...

    Borrowing from 401k?

The thread above should read "Borrowing FROM my 401k", and from what I understand, you can borrow up to 50% of your balance.

    Borrowing from 401k?

Currently employed and considering borrowing my 401k, as I understand that if I'm terminated or resign, I only have 30 days from my termination date to pay back these funds. I've spoken to my custodian of the 401k funds and apparently it's pretty simple provided you are still an employee at your...

    Commissions at a Prop Firm..Help!

I'm currently trading at one of the larger sell side firms with the firm's capital, and also on the side in personal accounts through a discount online brokerage. Trade For Yourself? At Which Firm? Suggestions?

Thanks mce. Do you know of any arrangements that allow for shorter term equity trading, meaning positions that are held anywhere from 3 days to a few weeks? I'm not a day-trader, but mostly trade equities and options on a short term basis. Obviously, the margin attainable must be much less for...

Trade For Yourself? At Which Firm? Suggestions?

I'm an experienced trader who has worked at a prop firm for 7 years. I'm tired of the meager bonuses that we earn (a discretionary bonus based on the firm's overall financial health instead of a % of profits) and need to move to the next level. Does anyone here trade for themselves at a firm...
