great article from bbc may 17,2006

I agree, it's a bit of an odd sentence. I think the point is that higher mortgage rates = higher mortgage payments = higher cost of living.

    Short AAPL

I personally think that the time to short Apple was a few months ago. Stock has tended to bottom out during the summer and move upwards during fall/winter due to iPod speculation, I'm not sure that this year will be all that different. The launch of the new Macbooks should be a positive for...

    Comments on INTC?

I'm personally waiting to see benchmarks/reviews for Intel's next generation of "Core" chips (Conroe, Merom, Woodcrest). I think that strong benchmarks (and lower power consumption) would be one of the first datapoints indicating a turnaround for the company.

2006 US Housing Market and Foreclosures.

Things have been quite nutty where I live (province of Alberta, in Canada), but I was quite suprised to hear that the Vancouver market was barely up year over year. Vancouver area has been screaming the past couple of years, and I think it is only up a few percent year over year.

    housing not bubbling

I've posted previously about chuckling over the heavily biased interviews of individuals in the real estate industry, there is a 5 minute segment that is worth watching here: http://www.robtv.com/shows/past_archive.tv Link to look for is...

Asia Is Getting Ready to Dump the Dollar Peg

I'm sort of wondering at times if the US deliberately wants their dollar to decline in value. The problem I see with this concept is that doing so would increase the cost of oil in the short term, but I think this also places pressure on China. A declining dollar is not good for Asia.

    Widescreen or not?

Could be - they sure have been plunging in price.

    Widescreen or not?

I'm glad to hear that if it's true, I've certainly been having a fair bit of difficulty locating info on this online because 1680 x 1050 is a relatively non-standard resolution.

big cheap money. Where to get?

Wrong. And I certainly hope they aren't "incesting" those poor vulnerable municipal bonds. ;)

    W-8 changes 15.05.06 - important

This whole issue seems a bit whacky to me, I haven't seen any news regarding this on other Canadian brokerage websites (yet). Could this have to do with IB clearing in the US vs. Canadian brokerages clearing within Canada? I just find it odd that other Canadian brokers don't seem to be...

    Widescreen or not?

Good point - in order to drive a 20" widescreen at 1680 x 1050 via DVI out, you need a dual-link connector. So some video cards you would need to use analogue out to drive a monitor at this res.

    Widescreen or not?

I might suggest taking a look at the Viewsonic 2025WM (20" widescreen). The price on them has been rapidly dropping, and I was fairly impressed when I saw one in person at a store a couple of weeks back.

Charged anew 11,000% of comm. fees for 1900 trades, and 570% of money used to trade

The thing that suprises me the most about this thread is that the trader was doing such high volume trading with about $1,000 of capital. I don't have a very large trading account yet, but I am very selective with my trading (that was actually one of my goals regarding trading in 2006).

Charged anew 11,000% of comm. fees for 1900 trades, and 570% of money used to trade

Very subtle, one particular comment about the broker made it very clear who he was talking about as well.

Is TradeStation as "buggy" as QuoteTracker?

As a user of QuoteTracker, I feel the need to speak up. You sure have something up your ass where their software is concerned, don't you? I've used QuoteTracker for a number of months now, have found it to be an excellent piece of software with amazingly rapid tech support, and have...

    Pictures of your trading stations

The GeForce 7600GT and 7900GT now come with a dual-link DVI output, so I believe that they should both be able to drive this beast.

    Housing Rolling Along 2

Very good point, this is something that I see all the time. I've frequently seen realtors quoted as saying that you can't really cash in on housing appreciation, they conveniently forget about the option to rent instead of own.

    Housing Rolling Along 2

I think part of the move has a great deal to do with their business model. Contact centers are key to effectively doing business as a mortgage company, rather than maintaining a large number of branch offices.

    YM Traders

Well, I don't currently trade futures (though I'm interested in doing so), but I personally think that your stops are far, far too wide. I'm sure that others here would be better suited to provide advice, but I would think that you should be running stops of 5 points or less. Point is, if you...

    ip address

I wouldn't really bother changing your IP address. Why? Because you are going to see these same types of probes on a regular basis, even if you change your IP. Get yourself a decent little firewall (or two, in series), and everything should be okay.
