    Through the Looking Glass

Both points that you make are very close to my own experience -- the first part being quite fresh in my mind. It was not much more than a few weeks ago that I sat down and realized what the alternatives would be if I could not find the discipline to trade what I know properly; these...

Well put RN once again, my sentiments exactly. Your words are neither cold nor heartless, but just the plain truth. I think most of us who struggle as traders know exactly what needs to be done -- it's just a matter of deciding to do it. Having a fellow trader to remind yourself once in a...

    Through the Looking Glass

The drawdown is not so much a worry for me because it came primarily from my own frustration in pushing at an inappropriate time, rather than a deterioration of edge. I've since gone in the opposite direction trading smaller now, which allows me to be trade much quicker and smarter overall...

    Through the Looking Glass

This is a great thought exercise, a mental displacement that reveals the problem almost instantly. The mind is so much clearer when ego is out of the way, as when one advises another. I can already see myself giving conservative and practical advice I normally would never follow myself --...

    Through the Looking Glass

Basically just traded stupidly trying to get back a certain number, not isolating trades on their own merit which usually means not taking good profits and even watching them go negative out of frustration. Bias did hurt me initially but the rest was just failure of discipline and throwing up...

    Through the Looking Glass

Reading what I wrote a few years ago, it sounded like I could have written it yesterday. The first 14k loss was mostly a matter of losing patience; I had a string of flat or give-back days and just felt like I couldn't get any traction, then just tried to push too hard. The second blow-up...

P/L for the week: -13k on 336k shares 0, 0, +6, 0, -19 Two mini-blowups in two weeks, not quite a record for me but still plain ugly. Over the years I've found that mentally these things just turn when they turn, the more you struggle with it the worse off you are, like quicksand...

Take all the liberty you like. So long as the loop plays the truth, you can leave it on in here. It's all in the difference between what I know and what I want. You know which side needs to give.

A great read for the most part, I'd recommend it to anyone (just google it).

Glad to hear you're trying to grow the business -- a few caveats if I may. Your explicit goal is to increase your winning days by increasing size and/or letting winners run. The first option is probably the simplest route and really doesn't require you to change much except get used to new...

    Through the Looking Glass

P/L for the week: -18K on 290k shares traded -2, 0, +1, -14, -3 The inability to get one "clean" day frustrated me since last week, and that culminated in a mini-blow out on thursday. Here I am posting about "finding the line before the precipice" and "growth and longevity" --...

    Fios ...

A shame verizon recently accounced they would slow the pace of fios buildout . . . now no reason for time warner to fix this pos connection :)

    Through the Looking Glass

P/L for the week: +1K on 370,000 shares 0,-2,+2,-1,+2 A quiet week numbers-wise for me overall, but each day was still more of a struggle than was necessary. On 3 days my p/l peaked during the the first 15 minutes, so that proved frustrating. A very warped part of my thinking that...

    Through the Looking Glass

Gracias for the encouragement, it's true it was quite a twisted path to get to where I am now, but I can say my past experiences will always be a guidepost for the future longer term. I don't know anyone in my office nor have read any posts from other traders here who trade the way I do, and I...

Thanks for the link! Marty's book was a great read and an inspiration. He's probably the closest cousin us DIY'ers can find and hope to emulate on our own scale.

I think ammo's dead on, let go of one's ego and suddenly your fingers dance on the kb much quicker than before. But . . . to be perfectly honest, I cannot hold the same benign/indifferent view he seems to express of the markets. Things just aren't as liquid as they used to be, at least not...

    Through the Looking Glass

This is definitely true for me as well, but it makes sense right? Higher volume days for me are usually a result of frustration, impatience, or outright poor timing. We need to realize and hold this attitude of waiting for that one good trade, whether we've had only losers or 10 winners...

    Through the Looking Glass

P/L for the week: -6,600 on 263k shares -15, +2,0,+7 March results (since journal inception): -12k Monday just got away from me, no excuses. Just a friendly reminder that for a wrong position, the market will always give you as big a line as you want -- a useful distinction from a good...

Any malware that could cause unstable ping?

I'm getting regular mini-spikes in ping (30---> 200) every 60 secs or so and am wondering if there is any kind of infection that could cause that? Or is it most likely just the overloaded node (confirmed with time warner) that I'm on?
