    tampa's "short skirt" trades...

I wonder if it occurs to you that there may be some type of flaw in your trading plan? Here's a few suggestions: 1) Reduce your trading size. Trading 5 lots when your strategy is not working is just a route to bigger losses. Go back to trading one lot until you build some consistency...

what to do when you're screwed

Sorry to hear about your situation. I lost most of my money at one point somewhere around your age...."trading" sugar of all things. Worse, I had done a fairly sophisticated fundamental analysis of the sugar market at the time. It ended up doing exactly what I thought it would do a few months...

    IB disconnected many times

I noticed a difference as well. Quotes changing so fast I thought something was "broken"! OldTrader

    tampa's "short skirt" trades...

Better to learn to trade with a one lot. Increasing your size when you've clearly shown that you're struggling is financial suicide. Sorry for the negativism but you need to come to your senses. OldTrader

    IB disconnected many times

Here's a copy of an email sent to me by IB: Dear Trader, We have a problem with our server . We are currently working on this, and hope to have the situation resolved for you soon. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us. Regards, IB Customer Service

Yep...down again. Where's that apologist for IB? I'm sure he can explain all of this. OldTrader

    IB disconnected many times

IB is attributing this to one of their "internet hosts". They claim the problem will be "resolved shortly". I've been down for 90 minutes now. OldTrader

    IB disconnected many times

Please...IB has a problem, and evidently you 1)either are in an area where you don't experience it or 2) are an IB plant putting out misinformation. IB has been down in my location for almost 90 minutes now...and according to IB they are "working on it". OldTrader

    IB disconnected many times

Check IB system status. The problem this AM is IB.....based on what I see they have an unstable system. Went down here just after the opening...still down 30 minutes later. OldTrader

    Short Term Trading

    1) Why is this the worst book you ever read? 2) What are the names of the best books you ever read? Once you've answer either or both of these questions you'll have added something to the conversation. OldTrader

You might give Alan Farley's book a try...."Master Swing Trader". Available at amazon.com, or perhaps at his website....hardrightedge.com. OldTrader

    Quitting E-mini Trading

Well, now, maybe that IS a stretch, particularly if YOU are a competitor.:) What I was getting at is that there are some VERY bright traders out there. Further, there are some traders with definite edges. For instance, if you're sitting on the desk at Goldman Sachs, you're seeing order...

    Quitting E-mini Trading

Impossible, eh? Random? Amazing, how people who can't seem to trade ALWAYS come to this conclusion. You and the professors that all believe in the random walk. What you did was you discovered some of the MANY ways to trade that do not work. You figured that all you had to do was spend a...

Do you find it easier to hold on to a profit or a loss?

What a riot! Old Spice! LOL. My Dad used to wear that when I was a kid...the after shave. And I admit I did too when I first started shaving! These days I don't shave. I trim my beard. LOL. OldTrader

Do you find it easier to hold on to a profit or a loss?

Here's the thing: the fact that you're not a daytrader doesn't mean you shouldn't manage your trades, develop a strategy, and yes, remember your daytrader lessons. By the way, I'm addressing primarily the stock index futures in my discussion. These days commissions are low enough to be able...

Do you find it easier to hold on to a profit or a loss?

Got to rambling there....forgot part of the message. One of the age old trading maxims is cut your losses, let your profits run....so something to that effect. And yet I read post after post here on the website that talks about a certain stop order (I think that's fine), but a certain profit...

Do you find it easier to hold on to a profit or a loss?

I think the other guys gave you good answers. I hate to take a loser home personally....drives me crazy.....and more importantly, many of them have turned into BIG losers over the years. These days if I'm in a loser I'm out for sure at the end of the day. I'll look at it with fresh eyes in...

    tampa's "short skirt" trades...

Gosh....that description of sharp moves followed by chop pretty much describes EVERY day, doesn't it? My opinion of course. Doesn't mean it's untradeable though. Allow me to offer a suggestion. Why don't you put your trade on, put your stop in....then go take a nap? Problem...

    Swing Trading the E-Minis

Are you saying that 2-3 points is as good as it gets? Or just that 2-3 points is good for a "system"? OldTrader

    Swing Trading the E-Minis

Can't really tell you. I thought that perhaps that I had read that in her interview with Jack Schwager in New Market Wizards. But when I took a quick look I couldn't find it. Maybe I read it elsewhere. In here interview with Schwager though she says her average gain is $450, average loss...
