I've checked the ECB's site but the live broadcast was a split second behind Bloomberg TV, which was broadcasting it live. Is the direct satellite link available to members of the public? The Bloomberg coverage comes from that satellite link so I don't know if it would make any difference.

I'm talking about Trichet's monthly ECB press conference. Is the statement released to the news wires before he reads it out? If so using your news wire would obviously be fastest. Or does he read it out before it is made available to the news wires, in which case watching the news conference on...

Going back to the subject, OANDA recently had 15 pip spreads for USD/CAD and AUD/USD. They did it this morning just 20 seconds before the CPI data from Australia. The spread suddenly went from 2 to 15 and stayed there for several minutes. I can't think why OANDA has so many fans and I'm glad...

We're talking UK PPI here. I don't know of any other broker that ups the spread to 15 pips during this release. Even UK spread betting companies let you trade this and have better spreads.

It's easy enough to look on the hourly charts and you'll see that that is not a good strategy to follow.

On their website they boast of "advanced hedging and straddle functionality". I asked a rep what straddle functionality there was in the platform and she didn't have a clue, although it eventually came out that this "straddle functionality" consists of the ability to place buy and sell stops. Wow.

Tradethenews have a one week trial. You get the news a couple of seconds too late so you miss the knee jerk response. Still possible to wait for a 30-50% retracement over a minute or two before entering a trade. I prefer RANSquawk. Seems a little quicker and better organised. They just read...
