Trading bot results for the day: -0.71% (S&P 500: -0.41%) Had a really nice salad for lunch today. I didn't used to like salad, but I've found that if it has a lot of different fruits to go along with the veggies instead of salad dressing then I really enjoy it. The two parts of my...

Just for grins, here is an illustration of the currency trade I have on using currency etf's. I am short EUR/AUD, so I put AUD in the numerator of the chart to show it from my perspective. Note that the data for both legs of the pair have been dividend adjusted in this chart.

I read the entire thread Futures Spread Trading today. In my view that is one of the best threads going right now on ET. Although I am not a futures trader, they did talk about pair and basket equity trading. Those guys inspired me to code a bunch of infrastructure to support equity and etf...

    Futures spread trading

There are a few new spread ETF's by FactorShares. They are pretty thin volume so far, but hopefully that will improve with time. Here's the website: http://www.factorshares.com/ *Edit: It looks like they have a deal with Interactive Brokers to make them commission free at IB

Thanks, but you didn't answer my question.

ZeroHedge reports rumor of debt ceiling deal

Surprised at all the negativity aimed at zerohedge. Are there better sites to be reading? Or maybe all these critics just watch "price action"

Trading bot results today: -0.85% (S&P 500 results: -0.36%) Pretty bad week for the bot =( This makes me want to focus even more on adding new strategies and improving the diversification. Easier said than done.

The easiest trade in the world (that I think is wrong but seems to work anyway)

This is a very good trading idea. Usually the miners will hedge, but they are not competent to do it correctly, and mistakes can be brutal. If I remember correctly Ted Butler has been writing about the grossly incompetent hedging of one of the big miners for years. I think it was ABX, but I...

    NLY spike down?

I guess I sold to stock777. GL mate, I'm gone.

    NLY spike down?

Another factor is that behind the scenes of this debt ceiling drama the collateral value of agency paper and backstops for GSE's is probably in play. This morning's selloff is likely big boys reaction to backroom decision making.

    NLY spike down?

It could just be bank fear mongering, but that's not what I think. My hunch is this: the mortgage reit business model is borrow short and lend long, meaning they have to roll their short term debt quite frequently. If uncle sam is blocked from the credit market and can no longer roll, who will...

A quick update: I sold my remaining AGNC shares this morning after the bounce. 20% flash crash is too hot in the kitchen for me. Half the proceeds rolled into AGQ. Since it has 2x factor, using half the proceeds from the AGNC sale keeps the same margin footprint for my portfolio (currently no...

Trading bot results for today: -0.33% (S&P 500: -0.32%) My business partner and I have decided to go ahead with deploying a prototype version of the newest automated trading system idea from earlier this week. We have figured out a way to incrementally roll it out to live trading and decided...

A quick update on my lifestyle routine. I've been having the most difficulty with doing jumprope in the morning every day. I've skipped a few days in a row again. One reason is that my son (2 yo) is waking up when my alarm goes off, so he is up with me through my entire morning routine. It is...

    Rol's Trading Journal

This was one of those "one-two punch" days reminiscent of the typical price action during late 2008, early 2009. If you wanted an example, this was it. The tricky part is if we string together a few days like this in a row, as was typical back then. Hope things are still humming along for you.

Trading bot results for today: -2.12% (S&P 500: -2.03%) My AM news reading plan worked perfectly this morning, so I will continue with it tomorrow. Over the next week I should have some new ideas to improve it further. I've spent some time this evening refining my newest system trading...

Is this because our funding costs would go up in the form of higher interest rates, thus attracting inflows? If so, I also disagree on the basis that non-paying paper makes poor collateral, which is the biggest thing going for the dollar because payments are taken for granted. Also, you...
