Prop trader, employed or self employed?

I guess it depends on your contract. Mine states that I'm a self-employed independent contractor.

Best feed for Futures Options trading..

Market profile is a price distribution chart. All prints within a set time frame (usually 30 minutes) are represented by a letter (one letter per time frame) and distributed along the Y axis (price), creating a distribution curve. http://www.cbot.com/cbot/docs/cqgchart2.gif

Best feed for Futures Options trading..

I agree, $1200 seems high. I pay $625 for CBOT, Merc, news, and market profile. I had considered switching to E-Signal, for $270, but after playing aournd with their demo I decided to stick with CQG.

    Writing Options Buying Power

Don't know about IB but with other brokers i've delt with you could earn interst on the cash balance(premium received) less any short market value.

    Question for the experts

Why exercise early and give up the time premium. Just sell them. If an option is trading at parity you may be assigned early but extremely unlikely if there is any premium and if it does happen it's a gift.

    margin account balance

The only difference between a cash account and a margin account is a signed margin agreement. The margin feature will not be removed if the balance is below $2k, you simply will not be allowed to borrow on margin until the balance is $2k or higher. Brokers can also raise that equity...

    about margin buying power

no paper work needed, your broker will be kind enough to add the PDT label as well as the $25K equity requirement to your account for you. Brokerage houses can increase margin requirements which in turn lower your buying power.

    about margin buying power

Open a margin account, once you've made 4 day trades in a 5 business day period you will be labeled PDT. Note that the 5 business day period is not Monday through Friday. It is any 5 consecutive business days. If you make 3 day trades on Friday and 1 day trade the following Thursday you are...

    about margin buying power

You have 4:1 buying power based on NYSE excess equity even below $25k. Once you a labeled PDT you are required to maintain $25k. It also looks like your day trades are cumulative towards your day trade BP. NYSE RULE 431, paragraph f, section 8, (b) DayTrading (this is not the entire...

    about margin buying power

When determining buying power there are several figures you need to look at. You are alway held to the greatest requirement: 1> Reg T req.- 50% (gives a 2:1 BP) 2> NYSE req. - 25% (gives a 4:1 BP) 3> house req. - ?? (if applicable) A brokerage house may increase the minimum margin...

    about margin buying power

"BTW, intraday BP is 4:1 for PDT accounts over $25K (not 2:1)." Your intraday buying power is 4:1 as long as it does not violate Reg T. If you do, you can get a "free ride" violation.

    IB Margin account question

If you have $5k in your account and buy $100 of stock you are still at 100% equity. You have not borrowed any money from IB however since you are only required to maintain 25% equity, the other 75% is still available to borrow once you have no cash balance. Another example is if you have$5k...

    Pro firms and contracts

Don't know about all prop shops but my experience has been that the contracts explain that you are an independent contractor not an employee, desk fees, payout scale (40% on the first $500k, 50% second $500k, 60% over a million or what ever their scale is), and commissions. They also usually...

    Conflict of interest within firm

I have yet to meet an owner or risk manager at a prop firm that didn't trade. As far as your brokerage example, I think that would fall under non-public information regulations and would be illeagle. The brokerage industry is much more heavily regulated due to the fact that you are dealing...
