Do you short term traders like to hold overnite?

I'll hold indexes overnight unless the trade is a loser near the close, in which then I'll usually bail. Of course then it always seems to be that if I held I'd at the least get a chance to get out even the next day.

What other futures could I trade (with these req.)

Try any number of CBOT contracts, such as Gold, Mini Gold, mini silver, Corn, Wheat, etc. You can get free real quotes for the minis on the quote.com live charts demo, and also for the metals at the CBOT site.

    volume on emini currency futures

Yeah, I wish there was more interest in this contract. I like the size and am a small trader who would like to trade yen futures but not the full sized contract

    start up cash

I'm wondering why you even bothered to "give a little background about yourself". As if being a graduate student would have anything to do with trading success. For your edification, your education will not be of much help in trading. I wish you luck and like most of the other posts urge...

    A question for emini traders....

Picking stocks vs index futures are two different animals. Index futures move following things such as world events, economic reports, Greenspan, etc., things like company announcements, PE ratios, etc. don't mean much at all to the SP or NDX. I think you might find the futures easier...

    historical comodity prices

You can find some of what you are looking for for free by looking at turtletrader.com http://www.turtletrader.com/hpd.html One thing though, you will have to assemble the data as each contract is a file ie Nov 98 - one file, May 99, another file, etc. If you have daily Soybean, Corn...

Broker phone order error - my recourse?

Thanks for replying. Yeah, I offered to split the loss, and am now awaiting an answer. I am afraid I confirmed the order - its on tape, I just didn't catch that the slug who took the order didn't say mini!!! when he repeated it back. It was a limit order and I assumed it was filled when...

Broker phone order error - my recourse?

I placed a order over the phone, to buy a mini commodity, which I clearly specified and then mentioned that it was closing a position, which I thought would also alert the broker to the correct commodity. The order taker read the order back, with a very slight descripancy - omitting the mini...

Starting in Corn and Soybean (oil and gold) Futures trading

For corn the price is quoted per bushel but the contract is 5000 bushels (you cant trade by the bushel, only by 5000 bushels) , so multiply the price by 5000 to get the value of the contract. To hold a contact you need to put a margin up front - its a certain amount of $ for Corn I think its...

Starting in Corn and Soybean (oil and gold) Futures trading

You are all over the place with questions: How do you access futures markets - you need to select a broker, I recommend an online one, many traders here use IB (interactive brokers), globalfutures is another one to look at. You will need to open an account and learn how to place orders, I am...

    1 Lot Question (Bonds)

I wouldn't try scalping either. 6-10 ticks is what I try for, but with one lot, I sometimes try for a 16 tick. I guess it all depends on what you are comfortable with.

Looking for a gold ticker with charting

Did you try the thing on Kitco that tells you the price of spot gold next to the clock on your computer? I haven't tried it but it looks interesting and was wondering how it would work? GLD always looks to me like it nearly exactly follows the price of spot gold. Have you got that on your...

    Margin on new Spy Futures

Oh gee, I wonder why the volume is so small. I thought all the "sophisticated traders" would flock to this new contract. Makes me wanna go buy a seat on the exchange . . .

    Gold Spot Price 12/31/05

435 give or take a few bucks. I think if it was going to move to the 500 range it would have last fall.

    Margin on new Spy Futures

I think the CME officials either want the new ETF futures to fail or are just so out of touch with reality that their stupidity will make it fail. And to think that the CME is a publicly traded company . . . The margins on the new ETFs are completely rediculous. A 20% move is probably not seen...

CME Announces Latest Expansion of Equity Index Product Line

My curosity got the best of me and so I checked their site for some quotes an hour before the close . . . NOTHING. What a worthless dismal launch.

CME Announces Latest Expansion of Equity Index Product Line

Looks like the margin requirements are 20% of the value of the contract, if I read the CME web site correctly. If that's the case I'm sticking to the minis (ES YM NQ)

Need Soybean end of day data

Thanks Bluehorseshoe for responding. I checked the link you posted but all I could find is the yesterdays OHLC. I am actually looking for some historical data from Oct 2002 to Sept 2004. I am trying to avoid buying it from the CBOT for 200+$ so I was wondering if someone might just have it...
