Stop losses. Are they the tools of winners or losers?

Well, I don't believe in fairy tells, just price action. ESD

Stop losses. Are they the tools of winners or losers?

Pros are not Gods you know. No one can predict highs and lows with such precision with consistency. A pro is someone with an edge, superb money management and unbreakable discipline, but definitely not a clairvoyant. ESD

Stop losses. Are they the tools of winners or losers?

I look for elastic action after I add to the initial loser. If I don't get it, I'm probably wrong and take my loss. A 911 stop is a stop you use at all times to protect yourself from unfortunate events, they are wide, they hurt, but they don't destroy your account. ESD

Stop losses. Are they the tools of winners or losers?

I keep adding to it on predetermined intervals until the trade is no longer valid. I also keep a 911 stop in case the move against me is fast and loaded. ESD

Stop losses. Are they the tools of winners or losers?

I think your view is too limited. For instance, my signals are rare but they are offer great R:R. What's the problem then ? Problem is I hate missing them. Things like, "Oops it took off without me", is not acceptable because of their rareness, therefore, I'm forced to get in early, and...

can i have some advice from succesful traders.

Here's some honest advice. Drop all your tools. Get all the backdata that you can. Go back in time and study every high and low you find. Become a detective and try to determine why price reacted there. Do this for thousands of swings highs and lows. Forget the random charts, use 60...

Newbies listen ! My Story w/ lessons

You better be careful with the material Anek has posted in ET. I approached him on IRC Othernet but most important I have talked to his gang. The guy trades nothing like what his AHG journal described. In fact, he's all about catching tops and bottoms. Be warned, his journal might have had...

The Emini Mastro taking a $1,500 side account to $1M in 14 months

OP, Which trading platform are you using ? Any way to prove the screenshots are legit ? Any person with basic software development knowledge could create make believe blotters particularly one that has revealed no info on the trading strategy. Not sure of your intent but so far I see...

Stop losses. Are they the tools of winners or losers?

I stand corrected. Averaging down is mostly when the process is done eternally. Legging in, scaling in, averaging in is more appropriate. ESD

Stop losses. Are they the tools of winners or losers?

That's where averaging down enters the picture, to cheat the math. What's averaging down's greatest fear ? Risk of blow of up. How do you prevent such risk ? With an emergency stop. And the problem is solved. Adding to a loser must not equate adding to a loser forever. Recognizing...

Stop losses. Are they the tools of winners or losers?

I don't think the question is correct. Some people trade profitably with stops and others without them. Zillions of way to skin the cat in this business. Generalize and you will only look like a fool. ESD

    Scalping NQ

Time over time I have to listen to this. Who says we must risk less than our reward to be consistently profitable ? Only thing that matters is expectancy. ESD

Newbies listen ! My Story w/ lessons

People here in ET are too judgemental, they think there is only one way to trade. Find your way and let others be.

Newbies listen ! My Story w/ lessons

Agree with this post. Once I stopped using stops and started averaging down my trading turned around. Only stop I use is an emergency stop for preservation of capital. Once that is hit the day is done.

Newbies listen ! My Story w/ lessons

I agree, finding a mentor for guidance is the only way to speed up the learning process, without a mentor we are talking 4-5 years minimum just to get a clue. Unfortunately, there is a big problem with the mentor route. Finding an honest mentor is similar to finding a winning lottery...

    ES Journal Archive (2009 - 2010)

If the trader trades price and how price reacts to key areas one must not worried about the correlation of price and the fundamentals. On top of that, there is no such thing as too high or too low. Bullish reaction at the top is as bullish as bullish reaction at the bottom, the psychological...

    GS... "We apologise", lol

I don't understand some of the criticism, sounds more like envy. The $10 billion it was given last year under the taxpayer-funded Troubled Asset Relief Program, plus dividends was paid. What's the big deal ? Move on. ESD

Is the rally real or smoke and mirrors

It's a very tricky market. Traders suggest to keep buying until it rolls over. Great, so what does roll over mean ? Because everytime it looks like its rolling over it goes straight back to new highs. How can you tell when the pullback is not something temporary but a full reversal ...
