    halt by daytrading rules

Are you outside of the US? Open an account with a CFD broker such as CMC Markets. No limitations whatsoever, trade as small as you wish. Never had a problem with them. They offer index CFDs which behave exactly like the futures market (just at a fraction of an E-mini contract's size).

Adam, I have been flat since the last trade as I could not detect any clear support or resistance area forming recently. I will chart a summary of my past trades and continue posting as I enter a new position.

    Trading for friends and family

Exactly what bone is saying. Can fully relate to that. It's pressuring, damn pressuring. No one likes to lose money. Outsiders do not know how it's like to lose money. You don't know what you are getting into. I just give advice so that the actual trading decision is not on my side.

Need advice on breakout stop placement

Hence you might want to show what you categorize as breakout. Perhaps you are doing something fundamentally wrong, which is why the breakout which you see as one actually isn't. As said, I trade them all the time and put a stop at the nearest peak/trough and never experience the whipsaws you are...

Where do germans put their savings ?

Festgeld (fixed deposits), Tagesgeld (call money), Sparbuch (savings accounts), Lebensversicherung (life insurance). They don't trade or invest much. Only roughly 15% are invested in the market through a fund manager, even less (about 5%) are directly invested in stocks. Real estate is still...

Need advice on breakout stop placement

Define "breakout". Best is to illustrate an example on a chart. Are you sure that you are really trading breakouts or random wiggles. I have not experienced such a problem with stops when done properly.

    German Dax up +4,3%

Now up 4.8%. I regard it highly unlikely that it will "crash down" anytime soon. The smart ones are not those who act smart but who dumbly follow the crowd. Those who have wisened up, know what great joy I'm talking about when being on the right side.

No more loging to account & checking account value

I absolutely favor this new approach of yours. In fact, depending on the time frame, traders should be doing that, too. We set our stop and the rest will be taken care of by the market anyway. We cannot control where the price is heading to, so we only deal with what we can control: risk (or...

I was thinking about that, too. It was a compelling trade even at that time, especially because 1255 is a very obvious resistance in the daily. The thing is, I don't want to consider any low a support so I held off. I was looking for a downtrend pattern to emerge plus a more decisive support to...

Short @ 1229.00, Stop @ 1241.75 Finally I spotted an entry opportunity again after idling many days! I figured that the former resistance area at 1227 was of importance and price actually reacted to it perfectly at the beginning of today's trading session. Once we turned around in the...

Does the current pattern look like May 2008 to you?

I am perhaps losing all my credibility posting this, but I wanted to share my observations on this nevertheless. Have you noticed that the current recovery rally looks a lot like the rally in March-May 2008. Merely visually speaking. We all know too well what followed next. Will it be different...

where to learn basics of futures trading

schulzey, I believe you are very smart to know what leverage you can take and what is simply too ridiculously large to trade. Yes, one contract of the E-mini S&P 500 has a market value of roughly $60,000 at this moment. Just multiply the current market price times 50. Overnight margin is usually...

The market turned clearly bullish again (or has always been since Oct 4) so nothing speaks against being long. Trading the breakout would have been a good entry. Yes, I will try to buy somewhere soon.

Many thanks, Zr1Trader. I've been actively trading since 2007, the first two years were a tedious phase of trial and error before I gradually figured it out. But all the while I knew that trend following is what fits me most. The final stages were about being disciplined, having patience to not...

5talents, my thoughts were explained in my posts at the time. There was no reason for me to short on Monday because no significant low broke. However, the market formed a new horizontal support line yesterday, which subsequently broke. Hence I took this short trade because a new entry...
