    Huge Losses

Definitely. Guys, trading really isn't that difficult - the vast majority of people simply approach it wrong. I spent about 2 years trying everything and anything, luckily I made a bunch of money before I gave a lot of it back. Only after that did I realize that I needed a real edge; now that I...

Well, you're seeing higher profits because you're taking on higher risk - people tend to forget that the two are positively correlated ;)

I think you'll find it more closely correlated to volatility - when vols are low, OPG strats tend to safely collect profits. However, if vols spike, don't be too surprised to see some major losses.

Wow, 2-3 week time frames? This isnt 1980, lol don't know anyone doing risk arb with that kind of risk appetite. How long have you been doing this? I'm very surprised you haven't been blown out by a GE/HON or something like JNJ/GDT even. These are my stats for the past 2 weeks Average hold...

Definitely. When I know a trade is a good one, I'll do whatever is there, 500 shares, 5000, 50000 if i can. You'll need to find an edge if you want consistency and long term profitability.

lol, sorry buddy, you must be the luckiest arb guy in the world - 6k a day on 20-80k? try 200-800k, maybe.

lol i know equity traders doing 10k a day pretty consistently, having the occasional 25-50k day. i know a bond futures guy doing 75-150k a day, on average. 5k a day isn't anything extraordinary - it's very good though, better than me :)

How to Take Advantage of the CNY Reval?

Best guesses put the undervaluation at 15-25%, that's not a huge move over time. You can plow USD into RMB at any asian bank, but you have to remember the cost of capital... what if it takes 5-10 years for a revaluation of that amount to occur?

Do you have a EDGE over the market?

ROFL are you out of your mind? you obviously don't trade for a living. you have no idea what you're talking about and are completely off base as to what, if any, power a market maker has. I think I'm done with this thread this is a joke

Do you have a EDGE over the market?

lol, to OP: i know you will be tempted, but try not to listen to these wackos ;)

Do you have a EDGE over the market?

This can only happen when there is a mispricing in the market. Very simple example: Stock XYZ closes at 10.01x0.02 on the Made Up Stock Exchange (MUSE). After hours, ARCA is 10.00 x 10.05. All of a sudden, ISLD offers 9.96... If you can lift that 9.96 and hit the 10.00, you've just picked up...

Wow that yhoo trade took balls. Hey man, it could've gone either way; if it was up 4 points you would be up like 20k.

    tryin to buy an nsx

Haha, awesome dude. I'm currently trying to figure out how to import a Vauxhall VX220 to the states. Anyways, heres my $0.02 regarding how to best go about pulling this off. $5k is no where near enough unleveraged to make any legit coin, so a calculated gamble is due :) Personally, with vol...

    Pure Arbitrage...Still in Existence?

I believe someone already mentioned this but I'll hit on it again - the biggest problem I have with this kind of arb is the fact that you need to lift the offer on 100 stocks aftering selling your Q hedge (leaning on the 100 stocks instead of the Qs would definitely not remedy the situation)...

    Ok Ok what edge

Where is the edge in "very short-term scalping of currency futures"? I just don't buy it, who cares if you're trading a handful of contracts

    Prints outside of the market

...which in turn are printed electronically long after the trade is completed. On the other hand, stupid (or desperate) people do indeed hit orders far from the market - especially after hours, even on NYSE stocks. Case in point, had some orders in on PG after the close trying to get out of...

    Ok Ok what edge

I will have to disagree, at least partially. Sure, it's true if you have a good cost/capital structure you can do a lot of the same trades (M&A, some convertible arbs, etc.) but for what, a couple bucks? Who cares if you can put on the trade because you will be hedged by the 2 lot offer, the big...
