How Can It Be That The Spreads Are So Wide on OEX Options?

OEX is proprietary to the CBOE. Thats the big reason for the huge spreads. I think another reason is obviously the risk involved. This thing can move quickly due to futures on S&P. If you saw 3.30 x 8.10 or something like that you must have been looking at a screen after the close. I am...

    MILITARY POLL

Absolutely! But since I wasn't a trader at that time I can't say it affects my trading. It may, I just can't say how. I know my wife is complaining the last few days that I am too "somber". Maybe that is a consequence. But yes, the experience profoundly changed me.

    Indexes Overbought?

I think the indexes, or indicies, are overbought also but that doesn't mean it won't become more so. I think we rally through the close on friday and take a dump on monday.

    MILITARY POLL

U.S Army aviation; Vietnam 1966-67 How does that experience affect my trading ? Not at all that I'm aware of.

Is This The Top (For Now)

Note that OEX has succeeded in closing above 440. Now if we can get VIX to close below 34 we may get a bit more to the upside.

    smart routing

Yeah, no kidding ! I had a similar experience with a LEAP last week. Placed order to buy below the bid and it executed instantly. No complaints.

    smart routing

Anyone else notice a problems with "smart" routing on friday ? I was trading the apr 25C on the QQQ. B/A was 1.65 x 1.75. I sent order to sell at 1.70 smart. ISE displays my order but "smart" does not. It executed without ever displaying on smart.

    WINDOWS 2000 vs. XP

I have no idea whether this is true or not but my ISP system administrator told me last week that XP has some terrible security flaws and that 2000 and even 98 are superior in that regard. I'm using 2K Pro and very happy with it.

    IB: backfilling quotes

Unless my clock is really off, it's 2:30 in the afternoon in London when NY opens. Why would you oversleep in that situation?

    Oex A/h

I just opened my TWS and noticed that the options on the OEX are trading. It's currently 20:30 ET. I'm assuming this is on Asian markets but of course I can't see any B/A. Anybody know where I can see it? I must say this surprised me.

Today was almost like a vacation...

The other day on a poll on this site that showed 17 to 1 bears, I mentioned that it could be a contrary indicator. I'm not trying to take any credit here as I said it in jest. But you're right about all the signs pointing to OS condition. It was like trying to compress a spring that just...

    Scalping within a long straddle

Since you like trading dividend paying stocks, you could hold some in your account to provide margin and sell straddles, strangles, etc against the stock and have the best of both worlds. Sure it limits your upside and may present you with more of the same underlying but that's the game. If...

    Where Are We Headed

Are you going to add to the position at that point ? :-)) I think we'll see 810 on thursday. It might be brief though. I look for a rally on friday especially.

    Ise

I have to say that IMO ISE is far superior to the others. This morning I entered an order for QQQ apr 25C> smart routed it to PHLX (shudder). My order was away from the market by a dime. It sat for about five minutes and was executed..............by the ISE. Must be a linkage situation and...

    Scalping within a long straddle

Div; what you have described is a strangle rather than a straddle. A straddle requires both options at the same strike. Also to get break even points you need to add the TOTAL premium (6.6) to the call and subtract TOTAL premium from the put. Perhaps the following might interest you> Lets...

    Sentiment Poll

might be a contrary indicator :-)) I can't recall who said it but it went like this......"the public is usually correct in their assessment of the market except at the extremes" or close to that.
