    Trading the S&P/DJIA spread

I think the Dow has been leading the S&P down the last few days. In any case I think we are ready for a snap back with the major indexes going up, that may get the spread price moving. I'm doubling up on my short position in the spread at 71, overall short at 52.

    Trading the S&P/DJIA spread

Setharb - About 6 months. Yes, although not as much as I'd like :) My impression is that the spread moves around alot during periods of high volatility. There seems to be a real fear in the air (war jitters?), so it has been very volatile lately. May be some wild rides on Monday...

    Trading the S&P/DJIA spread

Yes, this strategy could be mechanized. Off the top of my head, I would chart the spread price and buy/sell the spread when it hits the bottom/top of the Bollenger bands. Also I would scale in and out. First Alert has excellent spread capabilities, if it has an automated trading feature that...

    Trading the S&P/DJIA spread

Spread is in the 0-5 range and I'm long at about 18. Was moving against me for a few days, but a little improvement today. I've been staying out of it pretty much until things improve. This is the result of a downward trend in the spread price that started last Monday. Also, I have...

    Trading the S&P/DJIA spread

I have done ES/YM and SPY/DIA. Currently I do the futures due to lower costs, better tax treatment, and the fact they are all-electronic. I enter both sides simultaneously using MKT orders, to ensure I get in on both sides.

    Trading the S&P/DJIA spread

Holding time is anywhere from a few seconds to 2 days. The shorter the holding period - the less risk, so my goal is many small gains vs. the occasional larger loss. Best gain is about 13 dow pts ($65 per contract), worst loss about 25 dow pts., avg gain about 7 pts, avg loss about 20 pts...

    SuperMontage vs. Instinet

Was visiting NYC Times Square this weekend, looks like they are now also competing for coolest video wall. I thought Nasdaq's video wall was cool, until I saw Instinet's - across the street - AWESOME!

    Comission and Bullet Rates

Neither one of you going to win this argument because as been mentioned before it depends on the individual trader and their needs - whether they take or give liquidity, etc.. Would be nice if one company owns both an ECN and does prop trading, they could offer very low rates to the traders...

New Trader tired of breaking even - Help!

Hi Deb, I have a few suggestions. Don't pay for any stock picking or any other type of service, they don't work. Don't waste time with Tech Analysis, or other "Make money in stocks" books. You don't have to stay up all night studying charts either. It's generally not helpful. You can...

    Trading the S&P/DJIA spread

Had another very busy day and could not post trades for today. For the time being I will scale it back a bit and just post ranges. You can assume I am buying at the low end, selling at the high end of these ranges. I'll post when they change. Currently 42-60 on this spread, good movement...
