    Investing in REAL STUFF.

I don't know how to break this to you ... but if we are ever in an armageddon situation such as a post nuclear holocaust (useful only for thought experiments since it is of an infintesimal probability) where share certificates become worthless (also an occurence of infintesimal probability)...

    Investing in REAL STUFF.

Setting aside the fact that P&L remains constant regardless of the underlying, I don't think your conspiracy theory holds water. "they" might want to bull stocks for various establishment benefiting purposes, but "they" have also supported "real" things like wheat and sugar in this country...

    ES traders: Above Ask/Below Bid

Thanks for setting me straight - Tradestation's notation is misleading then.

    ES traders: Above Ask/Below Bid

phoenix, You're probably right. I'm looking at feeds from Tradestation. They print Below Bid and Above Ask ticks - which could simply reflect out of order prints.

    ES traders: Above Ask/Below Bid

Question to the ES traders out there, Does anyone watch the T/S for Above Ask and Below Bid ticks? I assume those indicate stops being hit (although stops can be hit at other times as well, ie necessary but not sufficient condition) Any thoughts?

    greatest hedge fund disaster story?

    I'm 75% short, $100K

waggie, :) true, it's not much of a stretch. I don't make the Bill Gross "SPX at 600" kind of forecast because I'm trying to make money on swing trades, not make myself famous by shooting a hole in one. Guessing on a 10pt move over 2-3 days is not a bad way to make a living if you go in...

    I'm 75% short, $100K

newestmember is betting heavy on red and I respect him for that. Everyone else on this thread is just hanging around the roulette wheel whispering to themselves. If the ball lands Red, they'll want to know newestmember's secret powers of analysis, if the ball lands Black, they pat themselves...

Setting up a Charitable Remainder Trust to avoid paying taxes

I would strongly advise a discussion with an expert. Charitable Remainder Trusts come in a few varieties, each with different payout rules and remainder treatment. In any case, this is not a simple instrument. It is highly unlikely that anyone on ET, myself included, can offer any...

    Exploring a career in 'Trading'

4 step approach (to be followed in order) 1) Bet smaller than you can afford 2) Keep pulling the trigger 3) At some point, you'll realize that you need an edge and start looking for one. 4) Depending on your personality type, you might find that edge in indicators, or charts, or...

    S&P Daily Close

Wonder if anyone has looked into this: The number of times the S&P closes near (within 0.1%) of it's HOD or LOD has gone through some interesting changes. If you assume randomness and independance, then the closing minute should be no more special than any other minute, therefore the...

Percent volume by Time Of Day?

The NYSE sells access to their time and sales data for all of their listed securities- you could build it from there http://www.nyse.com/marketinfo/p1020656068262.html?displayPage=%2Fmarketinfo%2F1022221393337.html Perhaps if you could be more specific about whether you are trying to do...

    Trendiness ranking of futures 2002 & 2003

Acrary, That's E. Michael Poulos of RWI fame I presume. So a trend is a change in price over a given time frame that is greater than randomness. The measurement techniques are a little involved and recursive as I recall. Are there cardinal values behind the ordinal rankings that lend...

    Nassim Taleb and Empirica

The beauty of this technique is that it runs counter to the culture of Wall St. No one wants to be constantly bleeding - human nature wants a constant stream of revenues, this is diametrically opposite. So it is unlikely that long tail funds will get very popular. Then again, I don't know...
