Should I go to college before becoming a trader?

I'm not psychic, but I know a bit about psychology. About two thirds of my setups win and I can pick the winners with s simple trick bringing my system up to about 9 in 10. The trick is to take the ones that scare you and pass on the ones that you're comfortable with. Take the ones that make...

Should I go to college before becoming a trader?

Never confuse college with education. If you know for sure you want to trade as a career, the best education will be the one that gets you there. And college is an expensive way to get a lot of extras that you don't need. My advice, save up $5000 and go join a prop firm. Not all of them charge...

    master trading system

Not a bad solution. I mean the pain thing, not the taser thing. Trading firms use a "boss" for that very reason. "Follow the system or you're fired." For the independent trader, you may need drugs. I heard of one that makes you indifferent. Try that one. If you can't increase a second pain...

    Who's making money today?

BMY is heading for a bull trap. A little more confidence, like a gap up, then BAM!!! a fast drop and they're all stuck in a losing trade.

Plan for a Part Time Swing trader?

First, get your advice elsewhere. There are no successful traders here. I come here once in a while to entertain myself, and I actually trade worse afterwords. Second, swing trading may be too short of a time frame for what you need. Try using 60 minute time bars, nothing shorter than that...

Why the S&P 500 will be much higher in 5 years?

I don't know what it means to OP, but to me it means a throw under after diminishing swings. Means more bull movement. As of now, however, (since 2009) the price is still in the diminishing swings as he has marked. So the bull movement will be contingent upon a break-out on the bear's side.

    Can't trade small

Money is the smallest of all your risks. When it's your only risk you will be able to do 2% with no effort every time. I think most of the losing traders who post on here don't even know there is more on the table than just money. but there is. Imagine you're trading and I'm sitting behind...

Holy Grail Strategy (knowledge vs. opinion)

Wow! Look at all these unfamiliar usernames that I just found by stumbling into this forum. So, is this where all the successful traders hang out?

    Who's making money today?

Whoah! Why would you buy puts today? January 4, 2013? Unless you bought at the open and already sold, that is. Do you do TA? Let me see your analysis on this one. I have no indication of a down trade beyond 89.50. And reaching that price would be a huge indication to go long reaching 91.50 or...

    First time in the Flow…

That's true and definitely a factor. But here's something you may not have considered. A psychological study that I read about in a book called "Scream Free Marriage" says that when emotions are heightened to the point that you have to actively suppress them or let them out, the part of your...

If you got a big directional position before the weekend....

Hmmm. Not a great return. Made $9 per contract by 10:30 am and there was no gap up. So no real benefit from buying Friday.

Thought pattern to stay in sync with the trend?

Yes, that story captures my point precisely. In fact, her story is not too different than my wife's story. Never being allowed the freedom to make our own mistakes makes it seem like making a mistake at all is not okay. It's not about losing a trading fee plus $5 vs. trading fee plus $5000...

Thought pattern to stay in sync with the trend?

How old are you? ...nevermind, not relevant. I wonder if this question would be better in the psych section. Anyway, here's a psych answer. My generation seems to have a big problem with insecurity. That makes us prone to wanting to double check our answers with a credible source before...

How do you trade the bullish engulfing pattern?

I've never used a pattern like this, but after looking up what it was, I think you might find EMA's helpful as an entry point. Since the engulfing pattern sometimes takes up a good chunk of the trend, a minor counter-trend would take the price back to an EMA before continuing.

Sure! I'm game. QQQ February 64 Calls. $1.69

How do you deal with anger?

There's a good book out there called, "How to get Rich" by Felix Dennis, founder of Maxim magazine. In one of the chapters, he describes the top five mistakes people make when pursuing riches. The one that stands out to me is to mistake desperation for desire. You think you want to be rich? No...

Do You Have To Be Somewhat of a Sociopath To Trade?

I became more successful/relaxed during trading after achieving what I would call artificial sociopathy. One of the reasons I used to trade was because I hated my job. So I would trade in hopes of getting out of my job. Each trade was very important and very emotional because of this. When I...

Entering trades at wrong place, what do you do?

I think all of the trend traders just needs to develop software that will execute the opposite action as you typed in. Then no one would be getting in at the top going long and lose. They would get in at the top going short (without knowing it) and win by accident.

How to Avoid Getting Whipsawed in Chop?

I think your biggest problem is mis-interpreting the nature of the stock market. You seem to be able to lose a majority of time which is good. If "Up" and "Down" are your only options, a coin should be able to be correct half the time. But you should be proud of the fact that, as a human being...

    Best technical indicator EVER!... You.

Vinc I like your pessimism. It reminds me that I used to post stuff about how easy the market is while I was winning on virtual trading, then get smashed up on real trading for the same list you named. RangeTrader, sorry to say, based on the fact that I used to post explainations like yours...
