    MD or Trader

I'm a retired MD. I retired from practicing medicine about nine years ago, when I was 43. I how have a 40 hour a week job in the clinical trials world. I am able to trade for a couple of hours in the morning, which suits my trading style well. There are many doctors who love medicine...

    Staying Healthy

Steve, Go for it, I hope the diet works wonders for you. But I would feel remiss, as an MD, if I did not tell you that you are playing with fire. High cholesterol puts you at extremely high risk for cardiac events and stroke. Please--first take the pills. Then see if the diet allows you...

I got $90K from credit cards, where would you invest?

Help me understand what it is that you are doing. I'm totally ignorant about this, so please go through the steps one by one for me. You owe a balance on a card. You transfer the balance to another card with 0% interest for a specified period of time. At the end of the specified period...

    Being happy with life....

We make up our own meanings. There is no intrinsic meaning. Unless it is that advanced by the Monty Python movie, something along the lines of "take some vitamins, be nice to your mum..."

    Being happy with life....

Yes, exercise. One contributor talked about running. (I loved running, but my joints don't want to do it any more) so I walk up hills, which does the same job at my age. I feel terrific after I finish and for the whole day afterward. I also like alcohol and caffeine, both used sparingly :)

Economic Forecast For US Economy for 2005 and Beyond

Since when are TIPS a good investment? The same government that lies to us about the unemployment rate also lies to us about the inflation rate. Don't people realize that? Mary

Guaranteed way to make big risk free money in options.

Please stop doing this on such a huge scale. October 1987 is going to happen again. Maybe not this month, or this year, but it will. As Mark has recently pointed out in his blog, the markets are becoming more and more volatile. There is no money without risk. None. I'm sure you know...

    Unfair Mortgage plan

Right, and you've put your finger on the key word here, which is "entitled." This is the mentality we are dealing with. The essential point on which I think we disagree is whether that mentality can ever be altered. Everyone on this board is a trader. To stay a trader, one must be able...

Obama to tell Canada: No more tar sands oil imports

Like the Canadians need us, anyway.

I blew up , feels so bad

LOL! (with you, not at you). I took an 80K bath in the early 2000's on the Janus Worldwide fund. Sometime in around 2004, they sent me a very nice letter saying that shareholders would ultimately recover "at least one cent per share." After a long wait, just a few months ago, I received a...

    Unfair Mortgage plan

Appreciate your support, Mike, but I'm not cut from the same cloth. Since I worked for everything I have, I feel no moral obligation to help. My motivation is purely selfish--once again, guilty as charged.

    Unfair Mortgage plan

OK, I'm admitting the "cowardly" part--guilty as charged. As for the "lead to more and more" part--no, this does not compute. In my professional life, I have taken care of many, many people who live off the rest of us. A few are in these desperate circumstances through a series of...

NoDoji, Good for you, and I am glad you are doing well. You have talked about what you don't eat--can you tell us generally what you do eat? thanks

I blew up , feels so bad

Not really. Some people have learned it, and others have not. Nobody is born knowing how to trade.

    Unfair Mortgage plan

I am sure you realize that the price of putting the dog in a cage is much higher than what we are doing. Imprisoning someone for a year is much more expensive than throwing a few food stamps and Section 8 subsidies at them. Just being realistic.

I blew up , feels so bad

traderNik is right on. Yes, it feels really bad. I sympathize with you, because, like everyone else on this board, I know what it feels like to lose money. But--you'll live to trade again. And fortunately, it is only money. You don't have a terminal illness, nobody is torturing you, etc...

    Unfair Mortgage plan

No solution is going to be fair. Yes, I hate going to work so that I can subsidize freeloaders. But I think we have to face facts. 1. There will always be people who borrow money they can't pay back, have children they can't support, and believe they are entitled to sit on the couch and...

Inactive account ( $0 balance) with MB trading

I have a funded account with MB trading. I am thinking seriously of closing it, due to difficulty with trade execution. I've had many, many instances when their system does not allow me to trade--it says I have insufficient cash, or something like that. I always have plenty of cash in there...

    Complicated options price/volatility question

Look at the current IV of the put itself, rather than the level of the vix. This will give you the best idea of what is already "priced in."
