In theory, the specialist system should buffer or minimize volitility. How is this benifical to Day Traders?

    Daytrading with IB

QuoteTraker has excellent charts and if you daytrade one at a time, I think you could daytrade just fine. It depends on your method. They only have one order entry window at a time so it gets a little hary if you try to change symbols and etc., but they do have some nice features; right click...

    SpecialistMan - by John Bogle

Credibility is the goal; so you have to be concerned about corruptibility. An association; well maybe, A Magazine; you got to be kidding! (no offence Tea) I have never subscribed to NYSE Open book. Does it help to predict direction?

I concur; Don't throw out the cart because the wheel is out of round or the Driver/Manager steered the cart to his barn for "shrinkage" purposes before delivering the load. Fix the wheel and get the cart rolling again. What are the competitive alternatives (finacially of course) to the...

    SpecialistMan - by John Bogle

I wonder if ECN's could attract enough liquidity to diminish the relevance of specialist system? People who favor and believe they benefit from "personal service" can choose it and those that want an electronic auction and go that way. Then competition for business will guide the services...

IB needs a daytime ONLY order for equities

I think if you read the 1st sentence carefully you can safely assume he is talking about a stop loss order of some configuration.

IB needs a daytime ONLY order for equities

I think the reason why an afterhours stop order is scary is because bid/asks usually move way away from the price and if someone just decides to dump 100 shares at a low or high price it then becomes the market price and you get hit at some rediculous price not at all relavant to recent normal...

    Understanding IB

Ya, I'm the jerk that started this after an unfortunate conversation with an IB CS rep. It was really an irrational call based on an impulse rather than a well thought out position. I just wanted to work my problem a little to see if there was some way for me to get the standard IB service...

    Understanding IB

Honestly, the only reason I asked for a supervisor was because "Joe" said he did not know who set the trading policy and also didn't offer to put me on hold or something while he asked others. He became defensive and insulting and I don't think that makes me self righteous. This is a...

    Understanding IB

Well, I can see the politics of advantage and disadvantage is alive and thriving. Disadvantage individual investors with draconian regs and more will give up and buy a mutual fund or something the industry can make some real money on. One question I have is since settlement takes 3 days and...

    Understanding IB

Thanks to every one. I'm aware that IB interperets the reg very conservatively, and that is their right. But the requirement for settlement prior to allowing a new position is not consistent in the industry. Until cash leaves the brokers oversite, we are mearly discussing an accounting issue...

    Understanding IB

I had the most dissappoointing IB Customer Service experience of my entire investing/trading career this morning. I called requesting the name of the person in charge of trading policies in hopes of discussing IB's policy of requiring settlement of any IRA (cash account) transaction before...

    Free book from IB

I hope Ameritrade prevails as well. It seems to be in the best interests of everyone. Traders/Investors benefit as well as brokers. The accounting capacity seems to be in place to protect the public and the brokers so compliance with the outdated regulation seems obsolete. We Americans have...

My IRA is with Ameritrade and they don't make me wait 3 days to put on another position. I guess regulations are all in the interpretation.

    Competing Objectives...Who Wins?

Could you help me understand what you meant by the statistical earnings reference you made? I belive you said traders are earning .013 - .017 cents per .01 spent. So if you had a commission of $20 bucks they are averaging $6 - $14 profit per trade. And the guys who do size and have commision...

OK, This should earn me a few friends! http://www.bookfinder.com/ This will search many book sellers for the best price. Be careful to judge shipping though as some us super snail mail and it can take up to a month to get you stuff.

I have to second Longshots comment. If we are traders, what do we care if the stock makes a profit other than in the more esoteric market motivation function? Well I guess I care relatively for my IRA and my fellow Seattlites who work there, but not from a trading perspective.
