    Elite Trader Wishlist

Baron, Terrific site. Thank you very much. I have three suggestions: 1. Put a timer on the site, so that my web browser automatically will refresh every, say, 5 minutes. Currently I have to hit refresh to see new messages on the "home" page 2. Add words like: SuperSOES, SelectNet...

    SelectNet

Let me show my ignorance by replying (I trade NYSE almost exclusively): SelectNet gives the market maker the right to post SelectNet bid and asks that they don't have to honor, ie they can back away even after you preference them on SelectNet. This is called "non-liability ". This is a...

    Taxes

It is my understanding that you pay taxes on your "net gains", ie profits minus losses. The only limitation is that you only can take $3000 of losses per year. The rest get's rolled over to next tax year. If you elect Mark-to-Market you can take in excess of $3000 of losses per year...

best NYSE limit not reflected in Bid/Ask (IB)

Thank you for all the good feedback. I guess I was wrongly under the assumption that I would auto-execute without intervention of the specialist and that my order automatically would become the best bid. This was a small order of only 300 shares, so it would fall within the SuperDOT limit. I...

I really need to get a new broker

I strongly recommend IB. I trade a portfolio of stocks and issue more smaller trades. IB's commission structure is unbeatable. Their TWS software is also very stable: I've had very few problems in the past. Nothing compared to the hassles I had with CyberTrader. If you trade few stocks in...

best NYSE limit not reflected in Bid/Ask (IB)

Fletch, Thank you very much. I should have been clearer: The LIMIT was put in while the market was at least .25 higher. I just noticed that when it was time for the LIMIT to be the "best bid" it wasn't displayed, and I was not executed by the specialist. I didn't see any trades below or at my...

best NYSE limit not reflected in Bid/Ask (IB)

Last friday I had a situation where my buy limit price was better than what was reflected in TWS bid ask lines. Here are the details: * I had put in a buy limit of 28.12 for AXP on NYSE * The order had been live for at least 10 minutes, probably longer * At some point AXP began showing...

    An Observation...

I haven't noticed any difference in fill speed, qqq liquidity or anything else. Maybe the 25k accounts added insignificant liquidity after all ?

    multi-monitor vs wide screen

I addition to the other comments : * having multiple monitors makes it much easier to "maximize" etc. windows. They maximize to the monitor it's on, not the entire desktop * plasma displays has relatively poor resolution (the ones I've seen at least) They are designed as high-end TV sets...

Do a search on "TradeStation" first. Here is a link to where some of us shared our view on using TradeStation to trade in real-time http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2369 Backtesting and system development is a different issue all together

West Coast vs East Coast trading

I love trading out of CA. State taxes are high, but the benefits with weather, etc. outweighs the downsides. Make sure your family understand that you need to be at your desk at 6:30. There are several trading firms in LA (most in Irvine). Bright have several office in the greater San...

How do you define a trend?

I don't think there is any good definition. Here is how I look at it: pick a time frame for data and estimate how many bars your trades typically last. I prefer to determine trend by just looking at a moving average of 2 to 3 times the length of the average trade. Not scientific of course...

    option and stop

I don't find it cost effective to use options as stop proxies during the day. However, to protect overnights it's a very good option. Consider QQQ options if you're protecting a portfolio.

    Taxes-any Friendly Advice?

Many CPA's take Quicken files. Others I've heard of: * www.greentradertax.com * www.taxtrader.com (Ted Tesser) I've spoken to Ted Tesser in the past. He seems to prefer legal structures with LLC, companies in Nevada etc. I never felt that made any sense (but what do I know). Mr...

    IB improvements

One of the few things that seem cumbersome with TWS is actually issuing trades. You have to click on the bid/ask, adjust prices, then right-click and select transmit. How about allowing a double-click on the "Action" button to issue a transmit. The "Action" button contains one of the words...

    IB improvements

it appears that 722b has been released. No official release notes, but tech support told me that the major change was addition of option analytics (which is now a menu by itself) I haven't noticed any other changes.

    Building a day trading system

I recommend that you pick a stock or two (QQQ's would be a good candiate) and then simply trade your methodology 100 shares at a time. Development of a system takes deep understanding of the markets and experience, and there imho is no substitute for having money on the line. You should not...

    Opening an IB Account

I agree with a wire transfer. Ameritrade have to by law wire your funds to a compeditor without hasseling you. If they give you any trouble, you should complain to the SEC.
