    IB, Quicken, Downloading Transactions

DustPuppy: I'm using quicken 2001 Deluxe. I doubt that the "deluxe" has anything to do with it. Remember: this works differently that downloading transactions from your bank etc. First load Quicken and select your IB account. Then go to IB Accounts page and click the Quicken download. By...

    IB, Quicken, Downloading Transactions

the download doesn't work that well. I ended up creating an empty IB account and if I run the web update from the real IB account, it seems to work. Don't ask me why .. makes no sense. The only really irritating issue I have is that Quicken 2001 insists on calling most of my trades "near...

IB Outages Today Suck Big Time

it's really unacceptable. I thought they had a failover system, so that total outages would not happen.

    IB improvements

Another suggestion. This serious outage this morning suggests that it would be good for TWS to indicate in some very obvious way if I has lost it's connection to the server. I have multiple monitors, and I actually first noticed the disconnect when I saw the little logon window pop up every 5...

    DNS problems

I haven't seen the problem, but you can just stick Elite in your hosts file and circumvent the DNS servers altogether. JTWS has done the same on one of my computers, but not the other (have no idea why)

    IB improvements

Just a brief "thanks" to the development team at IB and def. The new release is again a nice enhancement. I really like to alternating color lines (something I proposed months ago to the developers). Really makes it easy to navigate my large pages. The layout managers is also a major plus...

IB order cancelled - wont go through

Another cause could be that you didn't input the right number of shares (I've done this a few times). Say you're long 100 shares but put in a order to sell 300, you will get an invalid order. This easily happens when e.g. the default order size is 300 and you've taken partial profits once or twice.

    IB: Trade record-keeping software.

Another option is to use IB's export to Quicken account functionality. The only issue I have with it is that it currently only provides the last three days worth of transactions. The monthly reports are not available (at least when I check last). Online support told me that monthly reports would...

    Bloomberg versus CNBC

The value of CNBC is really the opening commentary from the NYSE and NASDAQ floors. During the day they are slow with breaking news.

Why go pro if you have enough capital?

In addition to Hitmans good explanation I would also suggest that you look at the type of trader you are. 10:1 margin is most effective if you are a true day-trader or at least have few overnights. If your typical trade lasts more than a day, you could argue that the difference between the...

    Disciplined Trading - feedback appreciated

Ravi, the following may sound a bit simplistic to you, but it worked for me early on in my trading career. I wrote the rules for entry down and posted them on my monitor. Before every trade I checked that I was in sync with my methodology. More than anything, it teaches you to "automate" your...

Will IB maintain Commission levels in the face of New Supersoes fees?

The SOES fees will likely drive more volume to ISLD. Should be better for everyone that way :)

    Advice On New Computer

Sounds like a great system overall. Here are my thoughts 1. Don NOT select a cordless keyboard and mouse. Maybe i'm paranoid, but wired is just more reliable 2. Get one of the new optical Microsoft mice. Mine is terrific. Much more accurate and reliable than the old ball type. It's USB, so...

    Intra-day News

I think you handled the situation well - it's very difficult to keep a clear head when "stuff" happens. * it does sound like you were trying to make up reasons why the trade would revert in your favor. Hoping is often dangerous (and expensive) * whenever something happens that I don't...

    Busted Trades

I've never been asked if I wanted to bust a trade. I wonder how this really works. Does that mean that if you said 'yes' the counterpart(s) would have their trades cancelled as well? It would seem that in most cases one party would have made a good trade and the other a bad one - how could they...

IB Island Orders for QQQ Hangs Up

No, I trade QQQ's exclusively on ISLD and have never had any such problems. IB did have problems with ISLD quotes a few days ago, so maybe you entered orders that were outside the market?

    Listed Stock Trading

That is my experience as well. One more note: have a look at T&S to see how the specialist operates. Some specialists seems to prefer fewer larger trades on T&S while other let lots of smaller trades through.

    Listed Stock Trading

I virtually always use market orders. Limits are often tough to get off with the specialist. If limits were as easy and fast as they are on ISLD, I'd use them more. I rarely get a fill that is much worse than indicated by the current bid/ask at the time I enter the order

Analysts: an observation and a question

In my opinion you have to equate Analysts to marketing/PR people. Just as you (hopefully) don't think you'll be better looking if you use Avon soap - as the marketing would like you to believe, why would you think that you'll get wealthier if you buy a stock an analyst recommends? Most...

    Breakout

It often is. Insiders, by definition, have inside information. If they are investing their own money it's virtually always a good longer term sign. Conversely, insiders selling or exercising options at the lower end of the price range is virtually always a bad sign.
