    IB charging exchange fees

IB: how about negotiating deals with eSignal, ATFI, quote.com etc and get your customers a rebate. If you bring a bunch of active traders like us to a quote vendor they will happily pay you several dollars per month per customer. That way you could avoid charging us exchange fees that we're...

How much is Metastock Pro 7.2 real time?

Another performance suggestion is to only run Experts at the end of each bar vs on every tick. Depending on system that might be an option. Makes a big difference for active securities.

    SPY volume on NYSE

Does anyone know how much of the daily SPY volume is on the NYSE? I've gotten much better fills on SPY at the NYSE vs. Amex, but before I commit size I would like to know the daily SPY volume at the NYSE. NYSE also seems to give better fills than ISLD, at least for the couple of small lot...

    Is IB sotware WindowsXP compatible?

ajax: you will have to download and install the Java runtime environment yourself. Go to http://java.sun.com/j2se/ or http://java.sun.com/ for the general site. Download Java2 Standard Edition. I would stay with release 1.3.1 and avoid the 1.4 beta at this point. You need the JRE...

How much is Metastock Pro 7.2 real time?

Yahoo hosts a fairly active Metastock users group: MetastockUsers. Go to http://groups.yahoo.com and join metastockusers. That's another good place for advice and help

    fed meeting

The day of the announcement is not a good day to trade, imho. The day before can be very quiet, too. Just take a day or two off.

How much is Metastock Pro 7.2 real time?

I guess this turned into more of a debate than I expected. I'm well aware of how to work around the limitations of Alerts etc. My real beef is "why do we have to do this?". Metastock pro is being marketed as a realtime trading tool and I cannot even run systems in realtime continuously and...

    trading my equity curve

For the systems I use I tend to have fewer larger winners. By filtering by the equity curve I would in essence filter out some of the large trades. If you have a high winning percentage with lots of equal sized wins, it would probably work very well. Jurik's book has a good chapter on Equity...

    IB charging exchange fees

I find IB's new fees resonable. IB's services are designed for the active trader. I just don't see how creating $30 in commision for an active trader is an issue. If you don't like IB's offerings, just move your money somewhere else. We still live in a free world.

    trading my equity curve

just test it out. I've tried the same and generally found that it hurts my overall performance. Depending on system characteristics that may or may not be the case.

How much is Metastock Pro 7.2 real time?

Tahoe & rtstrading: I agree that several of the issues can be worked around. Let me clarity two of my points: systems & alerts: I know that the mov example was simple and there is a simple workaround. If you have multiple components in the signal the proposed work-around may not work. e.g...

    locking up

in addition to the other feedback: make sure you're running the latest drivers. Matrox (unfortunately) isn't known for providing the most stable drivers. Unless I have to I always run the WHQL drivers (which they call out on their support site). WHQL is the "windows hardware qualification...

How much is Metastock Pro 7.2 real time?

I really don't want this to turn into metastock bashing, but here are the reasons why I don't use MS Pro for real-time trading 1. Cannot run systems in real-time. You have to break out the signals, attach them to whatever you are trading. If for instance your entry is mov(c,5,s) > mov(c,20,s)...

How much is Metastock Pro 7.2 real time?

I have MSPro 7.2 with eSignal: works like a charm for charting and playing around. Excellent integration with eSignal. You can dynamically load data off of eSignal servers. System tester very limited, programming language very limited; but a great tool for trying out new ideas fast. It's a...

    IB improvements

I believe that IB could answer 99% of our API requests by providing order entry (like what's already provided in the baskets) and order confirmation. That's it ! On a technical note: please avoid COM objects or anything platform specific. Just provide a socket/port that we can connect to...

    Call me Chicken!

Sounds to me like you're doing very well. If you there is something in either your system or position size that you instinctively don't like or trust you will make erratic and irrational decisions in real-time. That is always expensive. Why don't you just increase your base size by $1000 per...

Trading is similar to poker, scrabble?

Trading is a lot like gambling. But contrary to Vegas you actually have a chance to adjust the odds of the game you choose to play. You do that by controlling losses, managing winners and consistently applying your methodology. If you want to compare trading to gambling, make sure you are...

    Two lines - One Computer

I like Fletch's recommendation. Consider having the 2nd pc be a laptop with a modem. That way you will be operational even if power is out. My laptop also has an ethernet Card, so the modem is only for panics.

    Trading without charts

I trade systematically, and have found that I get less tempted to interfere if I don't have charts open. So, all of today I only had SPX and NDX up, while trading about 10 issues.

For Serious Traders from Don Bright

"hat off" to Don Bright. I think it's great that a founder of the largest pro firm spends time on this board. Don obviously has an agenda at some level, but that is well understood and imho doesn't invalidate what he has to say. I would hope that if anyone is a partner/employee at one of the...
