    TWS on 64 bit Win7

Have anyone been able to install IB/TWS on 64 bit Windows 7? The installer complains that I need to run Java 1.4 or higher. I'm on the latest 1.6.0_17 x64 so that is not the problem. Maybe I need to install 32bit Java, but I'd prefer to keep it 64bit as my other Java software benefits...

Win 7 64 bit first impressions

Thanks for your suggestions. Yes, I'm aware that I can fiddle with the settings for both Java and process and thread stack sizes. I was just reporting the "out of the box" experience. Ubuntu 8.04 is also 18 months old, so 9.1 could be a lot cleaner. But so far, I'm staying on Win7

Win 7 64 bit first impressions

I've now had Win7/Ult on my 8 core xeon system for more than a week. I've found it very fast, elegant and easy to use. Compared to Ubuntu 8.04/x64 Win7 is significantly more efficient at running Java applications. Win7 uses about 66% of memory taken on Ubuntu 8.04 for the same java programs...

Looking for several traders to assist creation of a trading curriculum.

Every grade (including kindergarten) has curriculum requirements set by the states and local school boards. New curriculum likewise needs to be approved before getting any credits. The "teacher" needs to be credentialed too, and/or needs proven academic background. Somehow I doubt that a...

Lock free Queue and Lock free Allocator

Herb Sutter wrote a series of articles in Dr. Dobbs in 2008/09 with several good example of minimizing locking in concurrent environments.

Reality based coin-tosser method that beats 95% of traders in the world.

In the markets there's at least some amount of memory which supports your thesis. I doubt that's the case for roulette. But for the markets, i suspect the thesis is valid.

Windows 7 - To InStall Or Not - Dat is the ?

For a "surfing machine" i just build a clean VM with all patches and image that in every few weeks. With a full XP built into W7, that's now very easy to do.

    Don Miller 2.

fascinating how the Don Miller saga is unfolding. I actually liked his material on TradingMarkets years ago, so it's a bit strange to see the direction he has chosen.

Windows 7 - To InStall Or Not - Dat is the ?

A really neat trick is to use USB memory sticks as cache for drives. It apparently makes a huge difference. Not sure why the reviewers used USB vs. system memory, so there must be something i don't fully understand yet. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ReadyBoost Guess it's been there in Vista...

Windows 7 - To InStall Or Not - Dat is the ?

I'm going to do a dual-boot system with Win7 when I get the upgrade (Ubuntu/64 is the current os, with an old XP sitting idle) XP/32 bits just doesn't do my 8 core system any justice, and XP performs poorly under load on many core systems. Linux/64 has been a great alternative for about 18...

IB TWS: A tragedy in the making?

I'm on 897.8 and it's been solid except for one strange issue. I use multiple TWSs logged into the same account. Sometimes the 2nd TWS loses quotes of the first one is very busy. I doesn't recover. I don't use the quotes, so it's mostly an annoyance. Logging out and back in fixes it. When...

    Don Miller 2.

That actually excellent advice. I always work under the assumption that my systems could do better and press every single day to find some small improvement, new system, better routing choices etc.

    Backtesting question

For testing exits where e.g. both a profit target (PT) and stop loss (SL) could be hit, I've done the following Pick a number, say 40% and randomly choose the PT 40% of the time and the SL 60% of the time for the bars where both PT and SL could be hit. Try changing the 40% from 20% to 60%...

POLL: Do you think Larry Williams is a charlatan?

I actually agree. All I was offering was an independent opinion based on Larry Williams trading records. If its of no value to you, so be it. I took offense to the implication that I somehow was giving a positive review in return for some financial reward .. that's not the case. Only LW can...

POLL: Do you think Larry Williams is a charlatan?

Puretruth, Just want to be clear on this allegation: I have no financial interest in ET, I don't get paid to moderate, and I have not been asked by anyone (Baron in particular) to do anything for Larry Williams. I simply offered to spend a few hours of my own time helping to settle the...

    Larry Williams Million Dollar Challenge

I had screenshots with all positions, pending orders, account number etc. Based on that, I went through and summarized what I found. I also checked the a few of the prices against my historical database, and only found data that matched the historcal data. As I said: seems 100% legit to...
