Plotting a tick chart from yahoo/google finance.

That is what I am not sure of. Anyone here could confirm that Yahoo does provide tick data but has delays?

Plotting a tick chart from yahoo/google finance.

I don't think they provide level 2 data. Don't actually need level 2 data to plot a tick bar chart.

Plotting a tick chart from yahoo/google finance.

If it's a delay it doesn't matter as my trading approach is a long term approach (large tick number). But if it updates once every 30 minutes, it is definitely going to be a problem as I am relying on every tick to plot the bar chart. I assume that it is just a delay and not an update of once...

Plotting a tick chart from yahoo/google finance.

Brokers don't offer tick chart for some indices especially from the third world countries/developing countries. Famous brokers around the world on the other hand don't offer these indices to be traded, so, the only option is to go with the local brokers in developing/third-world countries...

Plotting a tick chart from yahoo/google finance.

Unfortunately I am trying to trade certain indices which are not available in common brokers like IB.

Plotting a tick chart from yahoo/google finance.

I am looking for a library (any language) which could retrieve price quotes from yahoo finance and plot them into tick bar chart. I have a charting platform from my broker but they do not provide tick charts, only time-based charts. Thus, I wanted to have an independent tick charting platform...

The TREND is your friend.. The biggest lie ever!

i am nobody, You have been trading for over 25 years, did you use the same system back then? I am just curious because back then it would be difficult to get an access to a powerful computer considering what you have said, where your strategy is computational intensive.

Question from someone who know absolutely NOTHING about programming

I have to agree with ZenMusic. C# is more to Windows oriented, made for Windows operating system. Java is very portable. Once coded, runs everywhere. I would say the tree languages (Java,C++ and C#) are very similar. Once you have learnt one, learning the other would be very easy.

Technical Analysis does not work, never did, never will

You have some valid points. However, if one could find price actions/behaviours which are recurring for over a period of time, they could be quantified. But of course, due to some element of randomness (and the past does not represent the future) in the market, there is no guarantee how long...

    Backtesting and Curve fitting

You have to find patterns/somethings which have statistical edges. You have to be careful with hindsight analysis, cognitive biases, etc. They can be very misleading and deceitful. It takes time.

    Backtesting and Curve fitting

If your EA is based on the 'common' indicators such as MAs and you curve-fit hoping to find the market 'behaviour', you are doing it wrong. I have done it before and it doesn't work, at least not for long. The market is more random than you think.

How Many Stocks Should You Activly Watch or Trade at Any Given Time?

If your strategy is a generic one and works on most markets, and if you are a long-term trader, you could trade 10s or even a hundred at a time. If your strategy works on most markets and you trade intraday, monitoring one or 2 should be good. If your strategy is market specific, then...

    Discretionary vs System based trading

It's quite true but it would be very programming extensive. If you could observe, analyse and write down step by step on how your brain interprets patterns in the market, you could code it. However, if your system involves intuition, it would be very difficult to code.

    Discretionary vs System based trading

Theoretically, discretionary trading is more profitable, to answer your question.

Too Simple to Work? Advice Needed

You can be profitable trading an MA cross strategy. However, you have to incorporate some discretion (filtering the entries and exits), and not some rigid rules like what you have shown (especially the exits).
