$52k gone from my IB account. What next, sue IB?

No wishful thinking. If you don't want to close it immediately (perhaps you see the position is recovering), place a stop loss a bit below your actual loss. If touched, you are out. No complaint even if it rebounce just after you are out. If it recovers, try to push up your stop. I'm...

$52k gone from my IB account. What next, sue IB?

You mixed it up between a trade you made wrongly (due to unexpected events) and "something coming out of the blue (you don't have a cue what's wrong)". People know how to react because they are certain that there is a bug which executed a wrong error (hindsight). What if you suddenly saw a...

$52k gone from my IB account. What next, sue IB?

Possibilities: - the position is real. Closing it turned out to be a wise decision. - the position is erroneous. Closing it out actually opens up a new position. Depends on how fast you realise the position is actually opened, will you remedy and "close" it again. Then you may need to take 3-6...

$52k gone from my IB account. What next, sue IB?

OK. Forget his case and discuss other situations. 1. You made sure every position is closed before you leave home happily. Later on You come back. Open TWS. What will you normally after you first open TWS? A) Have a cup of drink before preparing yourself in the exciting trading world B)...

$52k gone from my IB account. What next, sue IB?

Yep! That is possible. A position pops up out of the blue. You didn't do anything. How come a position is up? Since the order can get stuck and revive after 6-8 hours, we can't assume the execution or the position will be displayed properly. Perhaps the position or the execution get stuck...

$52k gone from my IB account. What next, sue IB?

I thought about it. But please consider the following: - you haven't executed anything. Frankly how will you react when you see a position is suddenly open out of the blue? - What if the position you see is fake or ghost (perhaps some sneaky bugs)? If you close it immediately, you may actually...

Did IB get freaked out so it still holds 100% intraday margin in some markets?

Do you have some basic Internet manners? I don't know why you, kiwi_trader, is so addicted to name calling and personal attacks (search for his history for tons of examples). No post is aggressive but you react so fiercely and talk like an immature child who has no room to accept opposing...

Did IB get freaked out so it still holds 100% intraday margin in some markets?

OK, I would like to take this opportunity to point out a common misconception made by many people here. Well I believe many people are traders (some of them may be daytraders too). But if you try to ask this question to the general public, what responses would you receive? 1. Is trading...

Did IB get freaked out so it still holds 100% intraday margin in some markets?

For people who keep giving an example which show higher margin requirements may be helpful, you need to distinguish between two issues: A: I want to cover EVERY potential risk (no matter how small the chance of the risk to occur) in the margin policy B: I want to cover most risks (all common...

Did IB get freaked out so it still holds 100% intraday margin in some markets?

Thanks for your reply. However you still haven't responded to my questions raised in the thread: - why does IB think it is still necessary to hold the 100% intraday margin requirements? Is it because there aren't as many traders as those who traded E-mini S&P so IB doesn't care to change...

IB: A bug which sends order unexpectedly - discussion

I would like to raise some questions for discussions regarding this issue. Please be rational and objective. No flame war please! 1. The client clicked on the "transmit" button twice to send the marketable order . However the order has been reduplicated by mistake. As far as I know, one...

IB: A bug which sends order unexpectedly - discussion

The following case is a bug described by IBj (Interactive Brokers) which caused a client to lose money. IBj (in response to a bug which sent an unexpected order out of the blue): I have attached an annotated order trail with ID data overwritten. The audit trail has real world info such as...

Did IB get freaked out so it still holds 100% intraday margin in some markets?

FT79, Did you read? You are repeating the same point mentioned in my first post. Let me ask you in other ways since you can't get my points. Do you think it is the only way to keep IB safe (raising intraday margin to 100%)? Do you think IB will be in great danger simply if IB gives...

Did IB get freaked out so it still holds 100% intraday margin in some markets?

Here's the full list of futures which still hold 100% (they used to be 50% only). I'm not interested in all markets but I still show all for completeness. Part1: Part2: Please inform me if I make any mistake. :)

Did IB get freaked out so it still holds 100% intraday margin in some markets?

The previous volatility occurred a few months ago. IB was the only brokerage which decided to raise most of the intraday futures margin up to 100%. In other words, the intraday margin is exactly the same (100%) as the overnight margin, in contrast to 50% off intraday margin advertised in IB...

Two 15 year successful day traders, why is one protective and other Isn't

You know that guy. Why don't you just ask him directly why he want to share his method freely? Instead of getting the most straightforward answer from him, you choose to ask here. If he is the one who will share his method freely, that is easy. Tell him to come here and share his method to...

What do you think of IB data?

IB market data is okay but not very good. Note that it is also not true tick-by-tick datafeed. It is a snapshot-type of datafeed (the timeframe is about 0.2-0.3sec). If true tick data is what you concern, IB is not what you want. You would want to pay for third-party datafeed.

POLL: What is your primary order type to EXIT a trade?

I don't like to rush to exit. I don't use market stops. I use stop limits and trailing stop limits, or marketable limits orders.

IB margin policy is too conservative, agree?

While not being too aggressive on margin requirement is good, being too paranoid is not. IB real-time margin monitoring and liquidation is very effective and offer a very firm protection for both customers and firms. There isn't any need to raise the margin requirement, not to say by such an...

IB margin policy is too conservative, agree?

IB intraday margin policy becomes increasingly more conservative recently. If you take a look Futures Maintenance and Overnight Margin Requirements, quite many markets whose margin requirements are really unreasonable - the intraday margin is exactly the same (100%) as the overnight margin, in...
