Starting to see some interesting new 19" Widescreen mnonitors...

Update - looks like the Viewsonic model is about $450 CND.

Starting to see some interesting new 19" Widescreen mnonitors...

I have actually wondered about this for quite some time now, since widescreen panels have become very common/popular in consumer laptops. Specifically, I've generally been suprised that widescreen monitors haven't been very common in sizes under 20" - it looks like this could be the beginnings...

Starting to see some interesting new 19" Widescreen mnonitors...

...I was poking around the other night through a local computer shop's price list, and the following caught my attention: Acer 1916W-B 19" Widescreen LCD Black 8ms, 1440x900, price: under $400 CND. Unfortunately the monitor only has a VGA input (no DVI), but damn, the price sure is nice...

    Economics Majors

So in other words, he should basically do a business degree (with a finance major) if he is interested in trading. Couldn't agree more myself, that's what I'm doing. :D For those that aren't familiar, a business undergrad degree generally includes: - a calculus class - minimum of three...

    Pictures of your trading stations

I'm actually somewhat suprised to see the plasma screen as a centerpiece, wouldn't it make a great deal more sense to have a nice big LCD instead?

Nasdaq poised for a strong move Friday Dec 2?

I generally stay away from "the market is moving up/down" threads, but after a brief bit of consolidation, the Nasdaq sure is looking poised to continue upwards tomorrow in a strong manner.

    Chart Watch - BWNG

Update - still holding long position, stock is in a nice upwards channel. P.S. Here is a chance to post a snapshot generated by QuoteTracker's newly implemented historical charting. It's purdy! :)

U.S. Steel - Overextended or Not

Looks overextended to me too, but you definately have balls trying to pick a top in a stock that has been moving up like that.

Sceptre 20" Widescreen LCD Monitor $380

Can't comment on this new Sceptre monitor, but there are a slew of 20" Widescreen monitors coming soon. Gateway just launched one. Viewsonic has one on the way shortly, as does Benq, and so does Acer.

    Buy GM?

I agree. Just because the stock is cheaper than it was 4 months ago doesn't mean that it is cheap.

    3+ Monitor set up

Also really important to make sure that you use standoffs when mounting your motherboard in the case.

    shorting vs. being long

My take on things is that if you want to be short, and limit your downside risk, why not use options instead?

    question about futures rolling over

Yes. F = S*e^[(r-q)(T)] F = Futures price S = Spot price r = risk-free q = yield T = time Note - the above rates are continuously compounded. So, F declines as T declines, all else being equal. This is called a normal (or contango) market.

Credit Derivatives Led by Too Few Banks; GM

I suspect that the writer of the article is talking about notional principal, if so, it would greatly inflate the dollar values quoted for the swap market. I haven't studied credit default swaps yet (I'm actually about to do that this weekend for my bond class), but interest rate swaps for...

    LU...Why

Probably has a great deal to do with the roughly 4.4 billion shares outstanding for LU.

    LLL - Buy

To quote your September 23rd post: "The low is in" http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=55627 I took a look at the chart, and it looks to me like it is currently in a fairly pronounced downtrend. Today's close was $74.50, it'll be interesting to check back in a...

    Chart Watch - BWNG

Update - BWNG moved up 4% today, appears to be breaking out again, chart is a great example of what I would best term as "rising optimism". On a related note, I saw something fairly odd today - someone put up roughly 200,000 shares for sale at $6.90 today on an ECN (Arca). Seemed a bit...

    should I buy MSFT???

That may currently be the case, but I'm sure that they will be able to rapidly bring down the cost of manufacturing. And yes, I know, their retail prices will also drop over time... I'm also guessing that Xbox Live for the 360 is going to be a high margin business for them. Don't get me...

Rimm put out a false rumor today?

Might not be related, but I was watching RobTV just now (pre-recorded), and apparently Oprah featured the Blackberry on her show?

    should I buy MSFT???

I wouldn't be so sure, being first to market is very important, and it looks like Microsoft is going to have nearly a year prior to North American launch of Playstation 3. It seems like everyone is talking about the Xbox 360 these days, the buzz factor is definately present. Two key things...
