Any part-time trader here with a proper day job?

I'm in a similar situation, except that I'm not quite so far west, so the markets open a bit later here. Still, they open early enough that it's possible for me to watch the markets for a bit in the morning, then head off to work/school. I have a pretty long journey ahead of me before I'll be...

That's a cute video, thanks for posting it.

Windows XP on Mac,Its official now.

I think my point is that we are approaching this from different angles. You arguing that the foundation of MacOS is very similar to that of *nix (and can be used directly as such), whereas I am arguing that the differentiating factor with MacOS is the interface and overall user experience...

    Happiness is working for yourself

I really think that this depends on the individual. I'm young, but I've already seen plenty of people who are more apt to complain about work than to do anything about it. I personally view work as a way to advance towards other things that I want to do (such as trading), rather than something...

Windows XP on Mac,Its official now.

The architecture underlying MacOS may be based on *nix, but I don't agree that MacOS is directly comparable to *nix. In my opinion MacOS is all about the interface and the usability, and is certainly a better choice than Windows for many purposes.

    Chart watch - TZOO

TZOO is releasing earnings before the bell tomorrow morning (April 18). One thing that suprised me is that they will be holding their conference call during market hours (I realize that some companies do this). My point is that the stock is quite illiquid, so I imagine that doing so would...

    Housing Rolling Along 2

The part that really made me chuckle is that, according to the listing, you have to pay taxes on that island! $38/year. At least it comes with a tree. :)

Student loan debts are becoming major problem

You have a good point regarding the choice of TVs, though I also deliberately exaggerated the high-end example somewhat. My point was mostly that many people seem to live far, far beyond their means, whether we're talking about TVs, cars or toasters (my girlfriend told me about something she saw...

Windows XP on Mac,Its official now.

What I'm really interested in will be to see what the next version of MacOS X will deliver. There has been quite a bit of talk on Mac forums that virtualization will be a feature, and I agree - I think that there is a good chance that Apple will include the ability to run a PC environment within...

Student loan debts are becoming major problem

I agree that lifestyle has a great deal to do with this. More specifically, one can either live within your means and focus on paying down debts, or one can decide "hey, I'm done university, time to live life!!" If one does the former, things should work out pretty well; the latter choice...

Okay, now I *know* that the US is going to attack Iran...

I'm half-joking in the title of this thread, but this is now reminding me very much of Afghanistan and Iraq. In both cases the shit-talking was followed shortly after by massive bombing campaigns... http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/04/15/060415084241.xdv0o3w3.html Iran issues stark...

    ## Canadian Stocks Markets ? Stay Away from IB ##

I'm of two minds regarding this thread. While it is certainly useful to read about positive and negative aspects of brokers, I have to say that I generally don't place much value on posts by new members that immediately proceed to be highly critical of IB.

    gasoline -vs- housing

I sort of agree with the overall theory, but I don't feel that massive gasoline shortages are necessary for what you are describing. Why not instead consider a couple of possible outcomes of high(er) gas prices: - housing prices drop in regions that require lengthy commutes, as people become...

Student loan debts are becoming major problem

I agree with you. Unless someone else is paying for your college/university education, I think it is extremely important to view it as in investment, one that you are making for the purpose of being able to increase your earning potential in later years. It just happens that I was actually very...

Smart trading: Picking no lose stocks

TZOO is a bit trickier from a fundamental perspective, because it's still trading at a fairly high trailing P/E ratio of 45. I suppose that some of that has to do with the cash that its sitting on, as well as their growth. Come to think of it, I'm not sure that I've ever seen a very good...

    Chart watch - TZOO

Updated chart attached. Experimenting a bit with Bolinger bands so see if I find them useful, but they kind of clutter up the chart a bit... <img src=http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/attachment.php?s=&postid=1035546>

Smart trading: Picking no lose stocks

I already have a thread going, but I think that INTC looks quite interesting at these price levels. Probably best to wait for the next earnings release + forecast before taking a position though.

Significant increase in petroleum prices, how?

I'm not suprised to hear that they are considering the use of nuclear weapons (for the purpose of reviewing strategic options), but actually proceeding with using them is an entirely different story. If the US wants to turn the opinion of the world against them, all it takes is a single deployed...

Yup, that is definately one possibility. This one would probably additionally require fraud on the part of the appraiser though.

    Housing Rolling Along 2

Interesting article, I was actually the most suprised by the gasoline budgets that she mentioned. $400/month was considered reasonable for her commute not so long ago, and is now more like $900?? We probably spend 1/10 of that for commuting with a reasonable car where I live. With regards...
