I learned a while back that when dealing with other businesses, you live by their rules, get them to change them, or pick a competitor that best suites your needs. I don't sweat it, I just move on.

The point, I think, is that it is their money. They want to protect it against known situations that can cause violent moves. Not everyone will put a stop in or even notice the event is coming up.

Millennium only manages the IRA. They are not a broker. You have to check with futures brokers about how they handle the IRA. Tradovate uses Millennium. Others probably do to. BTW, Tastyworks does not require an outside manager, but they do not offer day margins.

BTW, not all brokers can actually manage an IRA. For those that don't, you will probably be paying about $300 management fee per year through a third party.

Do this exercise - in excel price a liquid option over time (if you day trade, use minutes to hours) and see how much the underlying would have to move to make the same profit as you would with the underlying itself. Don't forget the spread.
