Most of the indicies have broken the channel line dating back to Feb 2016 lows. Probably voodoo to some people, but a simple and clean indication of the trend.

I'd only play the gimmick trade in periods of low volatility. That would exclude Jan/Feb 2016 and this past Feb-Mar 2018. The past week or so of it failing to work (like clockwork) was another warning signal.

You are right, which is why a 3-4-5% down day "feels" like a crash for most people since they are used to suppressed ranges and b.s. choppy go nowhere days.
