How is this very low margin interest rate possible?

No. I don't think any provider asks for interest on "reserve" margin. I don't think there is such a thing as "reserve" margin. Unless there is with some crappy broker. That sounds like a loan rather than a margin. Margin is ONLY charged interest if it is kept over night past 11:59:59 PM. If...

    Bonds risks and margin

Thanks for the good suggestion. If this ^^^ is true then the whole bonds thing is out of question if it can't be used as collateral for margin. Are you sure? Why do you say "immaterial"? as in, the income from bonds is very little compared to earnings from high risk trading? (because that...

How is this very low margin interest rate possible?

***But interest is NOT margin requirement. Interest is just interest. Side note (unrelated to topic): Their margin requirement is pretty decent. And probably using more than 50% of excess liquidity (the cash available) is a very risky thing anyway. What I am saying is it's not for everyone to...

    Bonds risks and margin

I am leaning towards your method for one reason: high risk trading which requires high margin requirement. I am assuming you are doing it for the same reason. @bone definitely has a point about keeping modest balance but it won't be enough for high risk trading and also keeping cash in a bank is...

How is this very low margin interest rate possible?

Requiring higher maintenence provides security for everyone. They have recently raised their margin requirements specifically due to upcoming elections; so they are rightfully very proactive. But still they provide something like 60:1 for USD for example. I am not sure how different they are...

How is this very low margin interest rate possible?

What is "broker call"? IBKR seems to be the ONLY exception. I haven't come across any other so far that is lower than 4% even (4 times IBKR).

IBKR vs which other one? Tell me your best one and I will reference from their site.

How is this very low margin interest rate possible?

IBKR has the lowest margin interest rate anywhere I have found. What makes this huge gap possible between them and all other brokers? They are probably doing something really well and are not greedy but this huge difference in interest rate (like 1% vs 5%) is enormous and makes me think how...

    Bonds risks and margin

Let's say exchanges couldn't cover in those cases, then who would have? (If any). I gather that you say it's best to keep more cash in a bank account with FDIC insurance (get small interest) for example and simply use margin from a broker account instead of risking the money in case broker goes...

    Bonds risks and margin

I didn't read a lot on either...you can very well be right. I read this article on the 49 cents on dollar (stand corrected by by 5 cents) for PFG (if that is the same PFG). Again I just skimmed these so I get the idea of what you are pointing to. Thanks for the history...

    Bonds risks and margin

I read on both cases you mentioned. I am surprised that people had to wait couple years to get 90 or 44 cents on the dollar. Wasn't FDIC or SPIC covering their losses? or are those losses related to more than $500k ($250K SPIC and $250K FDIC).

    Bonds risks and margin

Thank you; this was one of the best articles I have read on bonds. Questions: 1- If I buy a bond with a maturity term of 1-year and wait the 1 year for it to mature, would I automatically receive the full value (in my account) that I paid for it at time of buying? (regardless of what happens...

    Bonds risks and margin

Thanks for the links. CDs won't help in this consideration because one can't use margin. I don't know which kind exactly but hoping for one that gives even 0.0005% and is the safest(?). If bonds go up and down a lot as well(?), what is their value then compared to other equities?

    Bonds risks and margin

I have a picture that I can buy bonds for little profits and yet use that as margin to do day trading. All of this is read of keep cash in account which is what happens these days with a lot of people who are worried about a big drop.

Interactive Brokers - Pro - US

Is there a way to get a US IBKR account other than being a resident? Maybe with a TIN? or registering a corporation in US? Interest rates for margin is much lower for US Pro users VS all other counteries. Thanks,

    Better than 5 seconds candles

Hello, On IBKR best timing of candles are 5 seconds. I understand there is sales history etc but they are not animated like candles. Is there a way to get like 1 second candles or a candle for each transaction? 1- I like to get faster updates for Forex. How to get that in TWS? If not possible...
