The insanity of European property markets

Good posts GoC, Currently I'm based in Latvia, Riga, and as a norwegian I'm almost shocked by the demanding price on real estate here. As far as I can see the prices are the same as in Sweden. In Norway, where I'm from, real estate is a bargain in relative terms with at lest 5x times income...

Norway publicizing each taxpayer's income & wealth

IMO, it's horrendous. Everyone can look up my income and wealth on the internet. Must be a field day for ID theft and blackmailing.

Norway publicizing each taxpayer's income & wealth

Yes, "free" education and healthcare. Neither not ranked very high among OECD (?).

Norway publicizing each taxpayer's income & wealth

Max tax bracket is 48%. Capital gains is at 28% flat. I trade for a living and get taxed at 28%. Not bad. However, there is a wealth tax at 1.1% p.a. that is quite harsh... Also bear in mind that other tariffs are quite high, for example almost 100% tax on new cars. Unfortunately, the oil...

    Riga - Latvia

    Dirt on ECHOTrade: Please Contribute

I have traded with Echo full time since 2001. Sure Echo has its flaws, but you'll find that in any firm. The grass is always greener on the other side. All in all I'm pleased with how they run their operations. But do your own research and not trust much info on this website. Most of it is...

    Any Berlin (Germany) Traders?

    Any Berlin (Germany) Traders?

I have spent some time in Prague, but IMO the language is a HUGE barrier. Quite hard to live there by just english. Most speak some english but hard to keep a conversation. And you lose a lot in everyday life by not speaking the local langage.

    Any Berlin (Germany) Traders?

That's my impression as well. It also attracts a lot of "artistic people" because the city is so cheap compared to other major cities. Those people rarely make much money.... (?) Anyhow, I'm just going to visit. BTW, I read somewhere that capital gains in Germany is 25% flat now for holdings...

    Any Berlin (Germany) Traders?

I thought about bringing this up again..... Any traders there? I might go there this winter, just curious if there are any traders there?

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

How can possibly anyone believe a tax increase will create jobs (such as Jim Cramer)? Undoubtedly this man must be a fool. There will only be a change from private jobs to government jobs minus the friction costs. Crames talks about "sacrifises" like we're some kind of serfs, he makes me sick.

    Trading from Prague

Still no traders in Prague except me? I have been here one week, and so far internet is excellent. However, quite tough to communicate as few speak english well. If any is interested we could meet somewhere during november.

    Trading from Prague

I have rented an apartment with supposedly good internet connection so I hold my fingers crossed. So, still no people living in Prague here? I guess Prague is not a "business city" so probably not many traders there.....
