My point was that the protection afforded by IBIE that you alluded to in your post isn't that much worse than that given by IBUK, particularly for a $1M account or for any large account that trades in futures and options.

I think you may have greatly misunderstood the level of protection for IBUK accounts. You should be aware that in the case of IBUK (and IB LLC) FDIC insurance covers up to $500K in US securities (with a sublimit of $250K for cash specifically used for the purchase or sale of securities)...

Unless you're an institutional investor I wouldn't count on it as the unavailability of US ETFs to EU retail clients is due to an EU regulatory requirement for a KID that US ETF issuers couldn't meet. I've been based in the EU for over a year, and I can't change my ET handle. I received the migration e-mails from IB and filled in the IBUK-IBIE consent form back in December.

Great, IB got disconnected again at 12:25 am ET. It’s been down 30 mins as I type, same issue as the last time.

It still wasn't working for me so 5 minutes ago I uninstalled TWS and I downloaded and installed the latest offline TWS build 981. Once I did that I managed to log in immediately. All the data connections are now green.
