Do you see patterns in Random Walks?

If Markets go according a Random Walk, then how does one account for market arbitrage. If the price of of a security is random then sure that would perfectly account for a price discrepancy between markets. It would seem that the variance between the two markets could theoretically be quite...

How do I know if my computer is good enough?

Any 'edge' you get off having a super fast computer is irrelevant when you compare it to having a good viable trading strategy. Unless, your strategy predicates the need for high end equipment, 90% of computers will do the job. Most trading applications only use 1 CPU, AFAIK.

How to cope with missing out on HUGE profit due to fat-finger mistake??!!!

I don't view things in hindsight. It happened. Take a BRIEF moment to learn from the situation. Move on. Anything that makes you present situation constantly dwell on past situations likely does not add benefit to your future situations. Learn quickly from your mistakes and press forward.

Do you see patterns in Random Walks?

This presupposes that each trader makes a each and every trade in a vacuum, which isn't true. Moreover, each and every trade on the tape would be completely random. The random market theory seems to say that if you put a bunch of people that a single idea is incapable of capturing the minds of...

Do you see patterns in Random Walks?

I don't understand the random walk thesis. If you expand your time horizons far enough (to years) you can see definitive trends. From a long term perspective prices will follow fundamentals of a stock. Sure the premium multiple will probably change over time, but a good stock or bad stock will...

Weekly results of a wanna B algo trader - 2011

Yikes. Don't you think that the even the idea of dipping into your home equity to cover margin means that you are presently overleveraged given your current circumstances and more importantly your mental state?

    Strategy Desk from TD Ameritrade

I only use limit orders when liquidity is an issue. If you want to buy, then buy. If you want to sell, then sell.

So now Soros doesn't like regulations?

Who wouldn't do the same thing if he/she was in Soro's family shoes. When you have that much money and power, why would you openly admit to more government bureaucracy unless absolutely necessary.

@#&( all other taxes. US needs national consumption tax

abolishing the tax system would essentially mean revolution. In the case of that situation, I'll be stockpiling guns and ammo instead of gold.

Did you ever share your profitable trading plan/method/system/edge?

Never been. Likely never will, unless for social reasons, will I go to a meet-up. My edge is common sense and prudence. I tend to find that a good trader will have the former two in spades. I suspect most of these meetups would be like Elitetrader, except in real life. Who would want to go to...

    Taking Profits

My profit target is when I believe I cease to be on the right side of the trade. This is usually easy because I am either (a) at a loss in the position or (b) taken a more than uncomfortable drawdown in the position. You can make good money by always missing the top and bottom of moves.

How did you come across your edge? Accident? Refinement of an idea? Taught?

View the market in an abstract sense. It is perceptibly iperciptibble. formlessly formed. It's an amoeba. When you abstract the market away, the only thing left is simply you and your judgements. Determining if you are right or wrong. Price is irrelevant. I don't care about price. I want to be...

How did you come across your edge? Accident? Refinement of an idea? Taught?

Buy high and sell higher. 99.9999% of market material is noise. Follow sentiment, not price.

Why trend trading does not work?

The market is a product of the human condition. To say the market does not trend is to say that the collective human condition is completely irrational all the time. Sure, I'd say most of the time we're bumbling around randomly. But when the same idea begins to reach the minds of people, a...

    2011: Rebuilding My Battered Account

If someone can't discern good advice from bad, then they probably won't make it out alive in the markets anyways. Not to say that smarts is a certainty for success in this game, tons of smart people fail. I always thought losses were the best teacher in the markets.

What realistic annual % return you expect?

I don't aim for realistic returns, whatever that is. I aim to take as much money from the markets when I believe the opportunities present themselves. My opinion with grinding out a consistent nut from the markets in whatever timeframe is that it hampers the trader from really pressing his bets...

Stop hunting has been around forever. Make mental stops or keep your trading stops on your side of the server. Problem solved.
