    Continue or Bin it?

Saw your pnl numbers, it's hard to provide any meaningful feedback because there's a lot of missing information, like which equities and what's your risk/reward structure, etc. If whatever strategy you're using was working on ES futures, I suggest you go back to trading them. For equities...

Peterffy proposes 100ms delay to data feeds to solve HFT problem

I agree that should be banned and it will make it more fair for all parties, and it will get rid of rebate harvesting strategies, but it still leaves room for HFT strategies that exploit time delays between the various exchanges and speed of data feeds.

Peterffy proposes 100ms delay to data feeds to solve HFT problem

I don't know for sure, but I would assume that as a market maker they will trade in products that have affirmative obligation. My guess is his reasoning for exempting market makers from the delay is so non market maker participants and intermediaries can't game them on their own trades that...

Peterffy proposes 100ms delay to data feeds to solve HFT problem

Peterffy solution to HFT order spoofing is to drive business from dark pools on to large exchanges and delay orders by say, a tenth of a second, except for quote updates from market makers http://www.ft.com/intl/cms/s/0/68273928-bf33-11e3-b924-00144feabdc0.html?siteedition=uk

Trading isn't business nor is it a job

those must be the words of a gambler, not a trader. If you want to make money as a trader, and be successful, you have to treat it as "a BUSINESS and a JOB", and you have to work as many hours as a computer coder burning the midnight oil, but instead of examining call stacks and core dumps...

Option and Stock Radars, which are the best?

ThinkOrSwim has an option scanner, they call it OptionHacker where you can search by volume and the greeks. I've used it but it only gives the underlyings matching the criteria, to get to the actual options I have to dig into the options chain -- maybe they have a better way, but I haven't...

how to start futures trading (emini)

I stand corrected... actually, these are minimum requirements: Indiv Acct USD 10K IRAs USD 5K Individuals age 25 or younger USD 3K Indian residents USD 2K The original poster mentioned he used IB, so that leads me to believe he's either a student under 25yrs or and Indian...

how to start futures trading (emini)

This why I used "~" to give "approximate" amounts and clearly stated "if" he was able to open an account with 6K and around 2K margin requirement for ES... however, if you want to be accurate, you can compute the amounts and percentage moves yourself... my statements were made for an intraday...

how to start futures trading (emini)

Kashili, one thing people haven't mentioned yet which you should know before venturing into S&P eMini futures is that 1 contract (yes one) has a notional value of ~ 94,050.00, so a -0.5% move will cost you close to $500. Even if you open an account with a broker that lets you trade futures...

    SPY options cost?

trying the email ticket first... I moved to IB because a bug on another broker's platform cost me $3K on a trade, but I probably won't move for .47 even though those charges do add up... hopefully I can get a reasonable explanation... thanks again 1245!

    SPY options cost?

It was a limit order that took a while to fill, so I would have expected it to have added liquidity by joining the bid/ask and resting. On the unbundled charges, I'm seeing a .47 execution fee, how do I know what that is for? Thx

    SPY options cost?

Anyone know why SPY options have higher commission on IB? on the following trade: SLD 6 SPY Jun20'14 176 PUT 1.17 commission: -7.59 that's $1.265 per contract, about ~60% higher than the expected ~.79 per contract. TIA

Whats going on with the weeklys

aapl, amzn, fb, those have earnings this week --whenever there's a pending corporate event, IV goes up and is kept higher, which keeps the premium higher, til the event takes place. Tesla made a big move from 195 to 219 in past 3 days, so my guess is that's what's causing it to keep the higher...

Why is portfolio margin only available to those with >=$100,000

It's simply because larger accounts tend to be more diversified (and hedged) than smaller accounts. Also, with a 30K account that is highly concentrated, say 2 non-hedged positions on the same asset class, the portfolio margin could be higher than Reg.T. Margin. It all boils down to the margin...

for small account: 50K, what is the reasonable return?

If you mean compounded annual rate, his return is more like 99.53% Annually. I think he just punched 20K into a calculator and doubled 10 times. :) Not a reasonable way to plan your rate of return for sure : ) Like I said very unlikely... you could sell .30 Delta SPX puts for 0.8% to 1%...
