before i got into futures i used to scalp only intc, i would trade 3k shares at once, make a quick .05 and get out, then get back in and out, i always used a mental stop, but no particular amount, just depending on how the market was moving dertmined when i got out.

if you have the minimum 25k most places will give you 4:1 in equity, if not you would have to go to a prop firm, you can look at the broker ratings on the home page to see some of them.

started trading the minis about 2 months ago, i prev. traded stocks, what i did was started trading the ETF's spy, dia, qqq. and watched the minis. once i felt comfortable trading the etf's i started on the minis. and haven't gone back to stocks since.

yes you have to have tws open to get the ib data feed. go to portfolio-new portfolio window. there will be an option to select what ever you named the ib portfolio, and click on it.

i think once you move to a longer time frame you make more, it will take out the wipsaws, i sometimes use a similar strategy w/2 ma crossing over, and i use a 5 & 15 min chart, take a look at your strategy on a 15 min for today, you can see were you cou have let your trades run a little more...

jerry, whats the easiest way to trade IB using QT? i'm guessing highlight the product, right click-trade, hit buy or sell? or is there a quicker way?

that would work, if you use level2 it would be best to use IB's level2, dateks isn't very detailed. i don't know if you know this or not, but you can set up both accts. on QT at once and just swicth back and forth to each accts as needed.

it's actually better having tws open, because the order entry is easier than it is for QT, just two clicks and your order is sent. for entering orders for datek, it's the same, QT will do just fine for that. also QT defaults its charts every two seconds, you change change that to were it is .05...

i use the exact same setup, Datek for investing & swing trades, and IB for futures and scalping. you can have both accts in QT at once. IB only allows 40 symbols, but you can have stocks and futures on the same list. Keep datek for you backfill(IB doesn't have backfill yet) but you won't have...

i would have to agree withe Ray, don't look at it as going long or short, just points and whatever way your chart/system is telling you the points are moving enter in that direction. if you keep entering trades based on a feeling you have your gonna lose, if you have a system that works obey it...

since the stocks going to move anyway, just place a damn market order and stop bitchin' or place a limit a couple of ticks abouve the current market, you'd be surprised how close you get filled to the current market anyways, as long as the broker isn't dilberately holding your order who cares...

does anyone know if IB is going to get/offer backfill, or have they already done that & i just haven't updated my software? brian
