Are Any EliteTrader Users In A Prop Firm? What Are Your Returns Like?

I think there are two aspects of this, and this may be where the English language lets us down a bit with regards to nomenclature: Return, suggests how you made off of how much you invested. It is slightly misleading to refer to the base cash amount as opposed to the actual leverage amount...

Risk management rules for margin cushion in Interactive Brokers account

If you are not doing a simulation account, but actual real cash, and don't want to risk loosing it, why not set a very high margin cushion (50%, 75%, etc.), until you get very comfortable with what you are doing. THen you can adjust it down if you so desire.

I would try IB Customer Service, I've always had good support from them.

Are Any EliteTrader Users In A Prop Firm? What Are Your Returns Like?

Shouldn't your % of profit be measured according to what your total leverage is? I.e., if you put in 40k, but are given 10:1 leverage you are actually dealing with a 400k account. If you then make 95k on 400k you are doing 22.5% profit.

Tracking PNL of rolled over multi-leg options

So, here's the situation: Let's say you open up a spread: SELL PUT BUY PUT You collect a premium (A) The underlying moves in a direction such that the options do not expire worthless, and you choose to roll over: BUY BACK PUT SELL BACK PUT You pay to close this position (B) SELL NEW PUT...

Brokers With High Minimum Starting Balance

Thank you kindly Wintergasp. So the 'step up' so to speak, from 'Discount Brokerage' firms would be 'Prime Brokers'. And the main benefits of Primer Brokers would be additional markets and instruments. So a good choice for Hedge Funds or Institutions, but perhaps less attractive to...

Brokers With High Minimum Starting Balance

This might seem odd, but please bear with me. A lot of brokerages out there (including I think all the ones listed here on ET) have a modest starting balance (1k, 10k, 25k, etc.). Are there brokerages that have starting balances that are much higher, say: 100k, 1M, 10M, etc.? And if so, what...

    Platform with good news updates

If you are looking at this from the point of view of being informed and for fundamental investments (as opposed to quickly trading on the news): Interactive Brokers' TWS does offer live feed of news. They seem to have the full reuters feed (and come earnings time I usually see it slightly...

Is it even worth the effort to learn how to trade?

By trade, do you mean 'Trade' (as in day trading or short term holding) or 'Investing' (as in buy &hold long time). The idea behind investing is not so much to beat the S&P, but to have a diversified portfolio with various holding and return types (capital, dividend, etc.) to meet your...

Call options on expiration: Pay out instead of assignment?

Hello, I think from your post you have BOUGHT a CALL option on a stock. I.e., XYZ was trading at 100$, you BOUGHT a Call Option for 1$ at strike 110$. Now, XYZ is trading at 120$. You will get assigned XYZ and be forced to pay 110$/stock. So you have a few options: 1) Do you have enough cash...

HERE is how to make money consistently trading the open

There is some validity to the basis of the argument put forth. In an efficient market scenario where there are no events of any type during the day, the price reached during the first 30 minutes can be indicative of the price for the remaining of the day. The first 30 minutes is usually spent...

Roll or closed and new order?

I think I see what is going on here: You are confusing the cost of opening a new position (The Bear Put Spread) with the PNL of rolling a position. When you ROLL a position in TWS it is showing you the price to execute the roll, it is not showing you the PNL to date you will have on the...

IB TWS option trader 21st century?

I do wish there was a way to choose the price for each individual leg as part of a combo order. The only choice is an aggregate of the bid/asks, which may be less optimal than pricing them individually.

Roll or closed and new order?

Could you post a screenshot of the two orders side by side? I'm thinking one of the prices you are quoting is negative and you might not be noticing the negative sign. Because if you look at the original numbers from the first post, you had 1.51 and 2.73. 1.51 + 2.73 = 4.24. But -1.51 + 2.73...

Roll or closed and new order?

I'm not sure I entirely understand your post, but let me put this to you: Technically, rolling XYZ is exactly the same as closing XYZ and opening a new XYZ. Just a 'roll' is such a common activity they combined both activities into one action. You indicate you can ROLL a position for a debit...

What's the point of all the trade calls on this site?

Perhaps some people are posting so there can be a 'permanent record' of their trading activity so that they could use it for prospective employers? Perhaps prop-shops look here?

Long on options vs day trading?

Weekly, Monthly, and Yearlies are all viable option trading strategies. Options are powerful tools that can be used for many diverse purposes and in many diverse ways. There are some very common and popular trading strategies that revolve purely around weekly/monthly (or even quarterly)...

    Interactive Brokers Hedging

It might be a feasible strategy if you are long the stock and then want to take a long and short position on an option in order to cover potential losses in the underlying. IF for some reason you want to hold the stock (can't liquidate due to legal/tax reasons)? Not profitable, but it protects...

    Interactive Brokers Hedging

I agree that it does not make a lot of sense (as opposed to holding both, just wait till you see the direction then jump in would make more sense). However, I have seen people think this is viable and perhaps that is what he is seeking.

    StockViews, SumZero, Seeking Alpha

Not sure how much they cost. I was mainly looking at them from the point of view of contribution of articles, not the reading of articles.
