Why won't brokers open account for me?

Sounds like you're trying to prove you live in the US - but you don't. Why can't you provide your address in the country that you are in and then prove this? If you don't have utility bills, try rental agreement or a Bank statement.

China factor helps drive freight derivatives

Most of the turnover in freight derivatives is OTC. But the Baltic indices are useful for gauging direction, and also tend to lead commodity prices.. which makes sense if you think about what they are. Not sure of any free online resources, as most of the data is given out by the shipping...

    slippage at IDEALPRO

Big gap down in the HK$ today. See attached time and sales market essentially gapped from 7.7645/7.7650 to 7.7539/7.7543. You'd have got filled around 7.7539 in IDEAL-Pro.

    slippage at IDEALPRO

Stops use the bid/ask as the default. So if you had a sell stop in USD.CAD at 1.0062 then you would need to see the ask at our below 1.0062 in order for your stop to trigger. Then a market order is sent and you get filled on the bid. Check the attached time and sales. Ask is 1.0067 and...

IB: About market data fees for non-US stock market

Benign, Post the request on the features poll to allow the user to disable the pop-up window. I'm not sure why every thread on IB seems to be a rampant conspiracy theory. We don't make money on market data. Take a look at the some of the exchanges earnings and you will see how much...

    triangle arbitrage

The original poster was talking about triangular arbitrage - not exchange/ecn arbitrage (which as you mentioned can happen). It's a too common issue that people see free money in the triangular arb due to a different settlement dates with the pairs. Not sure what our volume was that day...

    triangle arbitrage

Re-post the above... please remember the interest rates and the settlement dates.... there's no free money - forget triangular arbitrage. Free money means you are taking money from someone - do you really think the banks are so stupid to misprice something as simple as a cross rate? Also...

    Silly IB question

Set-up a market order using the Order ticket. Click on the Conditional Tab, and set-up your condition - submit order IF underlying < xx. (You could also do this using TWS Alerts)

The fills that I am getting are terrible

My guess is that there is something wrong with TS price. You can easily cross-reference your order entry time and your exection time with the Time and Sales. This should confirm that the fills are consistent with the time of order entry - and may you'll be able to tell if there was much...

Anyone else w/open position due 2 zero notification from IB HKFE closing 4 typhoon?

Open TWS. Go to View. Select View Audit Trail. Select Monday. You can choose either the condensed or expanded version. This will prove that: 1. It was not IB's fault; 2. It was not the exchanges fault; 3. It was not Mr. Market's fault (bet he's relieved).

Anyone else w/open position due 2 zero notification from IB HKFE closing 4 typhoon?

You received absolutely no slippage from the market. The HSI is volatile and slippage is common with stop and market orders. However, in this case you did not get any market slippage whatsoever. You were filled exactly where you placed your stop (which is unusually good when trading HSI)...
