I'd like to think I didn't get ripped off buying OpenQuant

Anton, I appreciate the follow-up. I wasn't directing my posting at you personally. Regarding any customer service issues, that's why I asked about TTAPI. The technical problems I had with OQ were related to the platform not the code library. I'd like to consider using OQ's code...

I'd like to think I didn't get ripped off buying OpenQuant

Thank you everyone for your responses. NinjaTrader will do for now. Once RightEdge comes out with their "data-on-demand" feature in the next product release I may take a closer look there. Unless I can't find an alternative it's unlikely that I'll be using my OQ license anytime soon...

Program to convert CQG data for use in NinjaTrader

Ray, You're welcome. Hopefully this might spur more NT users to share their non-proprietary apps w/others. The HowTo file must be clear enough since people are downloading the program. Have you tried using the program yet? If so, we're you able to get it to run properly? Is there...

Program to convert CQG data for use in NinjaTrader

How To Use NT File Generator: Background: 1) NT File Generator is a utility that will convert CQG DataFactory's [cqgdatafactory.com] futures Time & Sales data from comma-delimited format into NinjaTrader's (NT) semi-colon delimited format. 2) Usage: I use the program so I can have...

I'd like to think I didn't get ripped off buying OpenQuant

To OpenQuant, I've put this posting on ET rather than on the OpenQuant (OQ) forum b/c I rarely get a response there. My question to OQ is the following: What are the advantages/disadvantages to using TTAPI versus TTFIX? Since I've found the OQ support to be dismal I was wondering if...

NinjaTrader vs OpenQuant for automated trading

Sky, I'm not following you. Are you referring to using a broker that isn't supported by OQ out of the box and then trying to use that broker's API with OQ?

NinjaTrader vs OpenQuant for automated trading

I have licenses for both NT and OQ. I started re-coding an existing TradeStation strategy for OQ and then switched part way through the project to NT. My opinion is that OQ is the superior product but with almost non-existent support. I'm only a novice programmer, but after working with a...

OpenQuant - SmartQuant's new product for the retail market

Anton, I sent a detailed spec to Sergey on Thurs AM but never heard anything so I wasn't sure if anyone at OQ was looking at my issue. However, thank you for getting back to me and I apologize for any confusion. I don't think switching in between contracts as you've mentioned will help me...

OpenQuant - SmartQuant's new product for the retail market

Perhaps someone from OQ can answer this... I need to run my OQ strategy on a continuous contract for the first few weeks after a rollover date. I haven't been able to figure out how to do this in OQ and have posted a question on the forum and in an e-mail to OQ but haven't recv'd a reply...

    historical tick data

Keep in mind that the filters used by Tick Data will do more than "clean" the data series of bad ticks. This probably isn't much of an issue if you're using time bars but it's a huge deal if you're using tick bars. I spent about $1000 with Tick Data and found the data to be so clean that it...

Trading Platforms Pros and Cons - What is your favorite trading platform

I'm a current TradeStation user but in the middle of switching to OpenQuant. I use TS to run a fully-automated algorithim-driven trading program. I've done most of the serious programming in C++. TS cannot handle multiple tick frequencies in the same strategy without substantial EL...

    Comparison of auto trading platforms

Sky123987, Thx for the tip about the Neowin forums. The Q&A for C# looks relevant and very helpful. No doubt that I'll need the help as I'm new to C# and OQ. Rgds, Lou

    Open E Cry & OpenQuant

CPTrader, I just purchased OQ last week and I'm in the process of moving over my ATS from TradeStation. I'd be interested in comparing notes with you. I'll get back with you in a few weeks after I'm up the curve a little further. I'm leaning toward OpenTick for data since I need access to...

    Anyone using or testing NeedForTrade?

Is anyone here using or testing NeedForTrade? Any comments on the speed/efficiency of testing strategies using their twist on .NET? Does NeedForTrade perform automated execution? Which brokerages are available? I can't tell from their website. I'm a TradeStation user but the run-time...

Trading Platforms Pros and Cons - What is your favorite trading platform

Maxpi, Yes, I agree that it's not easy to set up TS for backtesting at the tick level but it can be done. I've been using TS for this and for auto-trading since May and I'm satisfied with the results. I paid someone a few hundred $ to code a synthetic tick bar program in EL for me. I use...

OpenQuant - SmartQuant's new product for the retail market

Anton, Is it possible to write portfolio-level constraints within OpenQuant? A Scenario that I'm thinking of is as follows: --Given that I'm trading multiple markets with a single strategy (albeit, with slightly different parameter settings)... --If wanted to set a constraint that would...

OpenQuant - SmartQuant's new product for the retail market

Syswizard, There are a few. The most frequent hassles are the TS connection going down around 12:37am every night and limitations in EasyLanguage which lead to most of my work being done in C++. I'd rather have one good real-time data vendor, one good IDE, and one good brokerage than a vendor...

OpenQuant - SmartQuant's new product for the retail market

Sam, I read your posts on the SmartQuant forum. Are you already using QD or just evaluating OpenQuant? What do you think so far? I'm okay with using EasyLanguage for what I'd call novice-to-intermediate-level programming. Do you think I'll be okay with C# as used in OpenQuant? I'd just...

OpenQuant - SmartQuant's new product for the retail market

FYI, SmartQuant recently launched OpenQuant for the retail user. It's a simplified version of QuantStudio which is an automated trading and development platform. The price is $499 for a perpetual license or $29.99/mth. Also, there's a 30 day evaluation version. The programming language is...

    Tradebolt

I spoke with them about 2 weeks ago. Apparently there is a conflict among the owners of the firm. I believe that some type of buyout was being negotiated. I don't use Tradebolt but I was interested in doing so and told them I'd wait until they've announced that they've cleared things up.
