Where has all the volume gone?

Alternatively we can look into other markets, e.g. CL, GC, ZN/ZB or euro, although I don't know what the liquidity situation is in those markets. I might start looking if this carries on for too long in index futures.

Where has all the volume gone?

Don't worry about it too much. Like us, all the big boys also have to make money, and they don't make money unless they trade. It will all come back in a few days/weeks. Until then our job as traders is to not get killed in the chop. Be available when favourable market conditions come...

Where has all the volume gone?

Have the large traders abandoned the ES? What's going on?

    CME volume reporting

Does anybody know if futures exchanges like CME report all transactions immediately, or if some are reported with a delay, or if some are not reported at all? For example, are all the block trades reported as they occur? And does the CME have dark pools, and if they have how are those...

    Write your own?

Has it occurred to anybody yet that perhaps not everyone needs to be glued to a screen 24x7 to be a profitable trader? Shock horror, I also read books, and spend time with my family! Crazy, isn't it? But then I sometimes have a thing called spare time. I know, I know, I should be...

    Write your own?

DCraig Thank you. Exactly the sort of info i was after. You have made a strong case for Java and having looked at the site I can see why. I'll also have a look around C#, purely because it looks and feels like Java and I'll be able to use the .Net framework. I didn't seriously consider...

    Write your own?

With all due respect guys, I don't need your opinions on whether I should write my own software or not. I can decide that for myself. That's not the point of the thread. I am only interested to hear from people who have written their own, and their experiences. Thank you.

    Write your own?

I am seriously thinking about starting to write my own charting software, consisting of only what I need, not bloated by thousands of useless marketing-type features that drags the performance down. I have a strong technical background, so the programming knowledge is not a problem. I also...

The ES chart on my eSignal froze yesterday during news...

Thank you all for the information. It's been really useful. I have decided to go with NinjaTrader with DTN.IQ feed. I have downloaded Ninja and currently setting up the charts as in my eSignal set-up. Will use the eSignal feed for the time being and then switch over to IQ.

The ES chart on my eSignal froze yesterday during news...

No, I just have three time charts of ES (1min, 2 min, 3min), with just one moving average that is configured to compute on close. Very lightweight set-up.

The ES chart on my eSignal froze yesterday during news...

... just before 10am ET, when Bernanke started speaking, and didn't come back until 10.05 ET. If your software didn't freeze, would you please tell me what platform you use? Thanks.

Conservative and competitive broker with Ninja and Zen-fire

Big AAPL, I am not worried about controlling myself, but I wouldn't want my broker to be brought down by a bunch of irresponsible, over-leveraged traders.

Conservative and competitive broker with Ninja and Zen-fire

Forgot to add: if there is no such broker and I have to stay with IB, what are my options for a reliable charting software that doesn't drop ticks during busy times? Retail software only, so CQG is out of consideration.

Conservative and competitive broker with Ninja and Zen-fire

I am considering a move away from eSignal after a good few years. I am currently executing through IB. I have read consistently good reviews for NinjaTrader and Zen-Fire. I don't mind a little C# programming either. IB doesn't offer NT alongside ZF. I know of several brokers that offer NT...

    FCMs, introducing brokers etc

Thanks for that link. So, IB (the broker) is an introducing broker and a clearing FCM rolled into one, would that be a correct statement? Under what circumstances would one use a clearing FCM and a separate introducing broker? What are the considerations?

    FCMs, introducing brokers etc

I use IB as my broker and that's the only broker I have ever known. As a result I seem to have glossed over some of the mechanics of how the whole futures scene operates. I'd appreciate some help with some terms I have come across recently. So here goes: 1. What exactly is an FCM? I have...

    Paul Tudor Jones

Good site. The majority seem to be quants which is not really my game, but at least they are quite clearly proper traders rather than bullshitters.

    Paul Tudor Jones

Sadly, that's true with all trading forums. I visit Trade2win regularly, it's completely overrun by idiots and snake oil salesmen. Charging a small fee may work, but I am not so sure. Remember that people who start these boards (Baron here and Paul Gould in T2W) are not traders, they are just...

    ES trading volumes

BTW Eprado, I'll make it a point to read all your posts from now on. I know a real trader when I see one.
