    Limit Order Q????

I use MB trading. I also have a firewall at work and can only set orders before the market open at home. Unfortunately, there is no way to do this with market orders through MB. I can only use limit orders. I have a longer term holding period so a few cents doesn't really concern me. SO if at...

    Margin Q????

Thanks. MB Trading is telling me different. They told me it does not matter, the interest is calculated the same.

    Margin Q????

I need some clarification on the calculation of margin interest. I understand that if I were to have a hypothethical portfolio of $10,000 and I bought $15,000 dollars worth of stock I would be charged interest on the $5,000 dollars borrowed to buy stock. My question is how this works on the...

    Backtesting Question

It seems that once one developes a system he can pick a market or a basket of stocks and test it over say 5 years on them. Is there any backtesting whereby one could run a screen for certain criteria and buy those securities, markets, etc. and hold for a certain period of time? In other words...

    Boston Real Estate

The condos in that price range are about 1000 sf. The single family homes in that price range are very old and often 2 or 3 bedrooms 1 bath and about 800-1000 sf.

    Boston Real Estate

Any opinions on RE in Boston and the surrounding suburbs. I know people talk of the bubbles in Miami and certain areas of CA, and even Boston itself. I feel like things are really nuts even in the suburbs. Many places that are 10 to 15 miles away from the city are still very pricy. The best you...

    trend following delusion shattered

It didn't stop working. The Zweig fund does not follow his principals. Its too big to do that. Look at the aaii.com website and check out the Zweig screen. IT STILL WORKS.

Is trading Gambling or not .."What say You" Vote here.

Not saying its gambling. If it has an edge it's not gambling. HOWEVER, if the leverage is too high then the edge may not play out before the risk of ruin comes into play. Long Term Capital had an edge as I understand it, but leverage was too high. Since FX markets are so liquid it can be assumed...

Not sure. This whole strategy is similar to using margin to buy yield bonds of REITS. It can make money, BUT is can collapse very quickly. High reward means high risk. There is no free lunch. FX market is the most liquid in the world, CTA's would be making a bundle off of these if it were as...

I ask becasue some one brought up the point of JPY the last 20 years. At least for your second system, the major collapse or explosion of a currency with 50:1 margin will devestate you. You could quickly lose a lot more than the initial investment.

Well, what do you suppose is your max DD? Just curious. Do you agree that you could very likely have a year or many where you have a negative return?

Electric, What you do sounds interesting. Your #2 system is just a series of carry trades where you average down, if I understand correctly. Your backup account is there in case you need more funding to average down. While all three pairs might not goagainst you, it is still possible. There...

    Longer Term trading

Anyone here position trade from a week to a few months. If so what are your tools, TA, fundamentals or a combination. Also, while it has been discussed the average return of daytraders and making 100% a year, what is considered an attainable goal for a position trader? Just a discussion.

    MB Trading

I was wondering if this broker was any good. I do not actively trade, but rather would like to purchase 30 to 50 securites per month or so. Any opinions on the ease of use of their platform?

    IB and basket trading

I was wondering if I could get some input here. I am not a trader per se. My approach is more mechanical based on fundamentals. I would like to buy anywhere from 30 t0 50 stocks 3 or 4 times per year. Would IB be a good choice for this. I could spend less than 200$ in cmmission there rather than...

    Trading mututal funds

Seeing the impressive performance of the No Load Fund X upgrading strategy, does anyone think applying technical analysis would be viable in swing trading no load mutual funds as opposed to stocks. Seems like a viable option, with less volitility for those with a longer holding period. Any thoughts?

    REITS vs REAL ESTATE

It seems that trading REITS for income purposes is a more liquid and diverse way to invest in real estate. Many REITS are still yielding 7%+. Here in the northeast one could buy a 1 br. condo for 200,000 and rent monthly for about 1000. This would yield about 6% per year. The big difference of...
