    Macroeconomics - discussion question?

but to help you out: "production" wont reduce short term (unless you are talking about oil production, which they reduced in order to raise oil prices). Consumption will decrease somewhat in the short term (as a result of the price increase), relative to the elasticity of demand for oil...

Deutsche Bank Had ‘Good Start’ to 2009, Sees Return to Profit

^ you beat me to it, lol American taxpayers absorbing their counterparty risk... As much as it pisses me off, I'm trying to see the bright side. Maybe this means that in the future US financial products & relationships will be able to carry an extra premium, since we're demonstrating to...

New US national economic policy: fraud and money laundering?

Great post. I think it's close to how it will play out, except maybe with a few more opportunities in the middle to scam $. The fact that you bid $75 is because the taxpayer is backstopping th risk, and the reason your CDS is so cheap is becuase the taxpayer is backstopping the risk...

Geithner: The private sector will set prices. Taxpayers will share in any upside

With the government backstopping losses, I am confident that this will result in a completely undistorted market for these assets. I'm sure they'd get bid up to the same levels without the govt' downside guarantee. Whatever... I can't believe that they can actually say this sort of drivel...

    Nodal Exchange (NEX)

I just asked our NYISO and NEISO trader, and he says no, not yet. I guess Nymex is offering very liquid zonals in those ISO's which takes away our incentive to trade on that exchange. He says later, if that exchange really takes off, and maybe offers pricing advantages we may participate there.

Most frightening statement from the FOMC - ever: Be sure to have lots of USD on hand

interesting premise... I still think the interest they charge is the premium they demand for taking on the risk of you not paying it back (plus profit). If you don't pay it back it's not like they can just print up some more and use that to offset the loan asset on their B/S (Im not talking...

US Public Should Eliminate All Retirement Payments To All Government Officials

Glad someone brought this up. Some might compare having government to AIG paying retention bonuses. I don't like paying 50%+ of my wages to all these local, State and Federal governments. But not paying them (leading to government disbanding in a sudden and disorderly fashion) would be an...

    Bloomberg: Obama authorized AIG bonuses

LOL. I thought capitalism meant choose the best opportunity. In this case that means take the most lucrative contract. They could go work somewhere else, but chose instead to sign a contract offering them X$ to stay until Y date. It was the best opportunity.
