Can anyone recommend a book for learning TCP/IP socket programming for Visual Basic in Windows? I want to be able to send orders to a broker with a raw FIX interface (no API, just a FIX engine with an IP address and port). I'm familiar with VB but not network programming.

Don't take it personally. It is just that the message "trading is hard and other people have losses, too" is more welcome than "trading is easy and everyone but you is making money".

What puzzles me is the bonds and oil both going up today. I guess the market thinks the damping effect on the economy of higher oil prices will be worse than the inflationary effects.

It depends on whether you want the lowest commissions or you want: -- an API -- to also trade FX -- to also trade equities -- to also trade pit traded contracts -- to also trade Asian exchanges -- etc. No single answer.
