    Real estate deals

I live in the Tampa, FL area and have been looking for deals in decent neighborhoods that cash flow or break even but haven't found anything. You can buy stuff in highly undesirable neighborhoods and become a slum lord but who wants to deal with that hassle just to make a few very hard earned...

Let's play "teach IronFist how to use volume in his trading" (lots of pics)

No. Please perform the exercise that I outlined and it will become obvious that volume on an intraday time chart is unreliable and almost worthless as an indicator.

Let's play "teach IronFist how to use volume in his trading" (lots of pics)

Volume on an intraday chart is a very unreliable metric because it is not possible to determine what the actual volume is. To prove my point open a 1-minute bar chart before the market opens and load a fairly active symbol e.g. SPY. DO NOT touch that chart or change the symbol for the entire...

The real reason trading is difficult

The real reason that trading is difficult is that very few traders have a clearly defined method or system. It usually takes a huge amount of time, effort and experience to develop a profitable trading method that can be objectively followed. The method does not have to be so rigid that it can...

    Event-Driven/News Trading Journal

lakeshow, how much experience do you have with this type of trading i.e. is it something new for you, or have you been successful with this in the past? I don't do any news/event related trading, but I did have a small amount of money invested with a group that traded stocks with positive...

    Options Symbol Info

Thanks for the info! I've probably spent 2 hours searching for this info on the web and waited about 30 minutes for IB online help and still couldn't get an answer. For anyone else reading this, here's a link to the ISE web-site explaining the product...

    Options Symbol Info

I use Interactive Brokers to trade options. Does anyone know where I can find detailed info on the various options contracts types? For example: I would like contract info on the March 2008 IWM 60 Put i.e. the DIW versus IQX Class options. The IQX is priced significantly higher than the DIW...

    Enough already! It's not random

I read your word document with interest, but the same type of Gaussian distribution is obtained by simply detrending the daily close prices of the S&P 500? As I'm sure you are aware, this can be done in a myriad of ways e.g. Log(Close Today/Close Yesterday), linear regression, dividing the close...

24" Monitors on Nvidia Quadro NVS 285's?

I had no problems running two Dell 24" monitors on an NVS 285 card. See my thread below: http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=107992&perpage=6&pagenumber=2 I only ran the set-up for a couple of weeks before upgrading to an NVS 440. As I mentioned in my thread, I did...

Three 24" Widescreens in Portrait Mode

You're probably right. On my next buy I'll go with the more expensive monitors. Fortunately, it's not a big deal, I just felt that three 24" monitors would meet the needs for this system, and running them in portrait mode (side by side) is more aesthetically pleasing than a stacked horizontal...

Three 24" Widescreens in Portrait Mode

I thought I'd provide an update to my setup or shall I say saga. I purchased a new computer that had two PCI-E x16 slots, bought two NVS 285 cards, and three Dell E248WFP 24-inch Widescreen monitors. Below are the issues I ran into: 1. The motherboard doesn't actually support two independent...

    Remember Warren Buffett 2003 ....

Wow - I sure wish I listened to him and shorted the XLF on March 4, 2003. I would only be DOWN 49%, plus all of the losses due to the dividends I had to pay ... but I would have the satisfaction of knowing that he was right! :D

Three 24" Widescreens in Portrait Mode

I'm contemplating a three 24" widescreen monitor setup and would like to turn them vertically (portrait mode) and operate them as one continuous screen. Has anyone here done this, and if so, do you have a recommended video card(s)? I'm currently running quad 19" monitor setups...

    Miami condo market auction..Weak bid.

I have to say, for a European these prices are starting to look very interesting. What would a two bedroom condo on Miami Beach fetch? I wouldn't want to own a unit in a building full of flippers who got flopped. Most of the units will probably end up in foreclosure and the condo fees won't...

    Slippage in stocks

The only way you're going to get limited slippage is to use Limit orders for the vast majority of your entries and exits. You could probably use Market or Stop orders on some of the most liquid big cap sub $50 stocks, but that will likely result in about 5 cents slippage on each Entry and Exit...
