Predicting Short Term Vs Long Term Moves

Prove it yourself. Compare ADX[daily] to ADX[weekly] on any instrument and time period you care to. No need to reply, I already know what you'll find if you did it correctly.

Predicting Short Term Vs Long Term Moves

Sorry, RN, you're incorrect on this one. A longer timeframe means less chop over a given time period. Less chop means a smoother curve. A smoother curve means a trendier curve, ergo a more predictable curve. Look up the coastline problem in fractal theory. The shorter the measuring stick...

Why are System Traders Vilified by Discretionary Traders?

You can say that about any career. You might suffer an accident or an illness that forces you off your chosen career path. Does this mean people should never make career paths? Ridiculous. Life is a series of probabilities, not a series of certainties.

Why are System Traders Vilified by Discretionary Traders?

Do I have to be able to foretell with absolute certainty in order to win? No. If I have a coin which I know comes up heads 60% of the time and I am allowed to bet with that coin and I get to pick which side, there's no way I'm not profitable over a long series of bets. Simply bet heads every...

Technical Analysis Has Contributed To A Massive Wealth Redistribution

It's sergio77 and his ilk that keep bringing this horseshit up. Complain to the anti-TA whiners instead of everybody in general.

Technical Analysis Has Contributed To A Massive Wealth Redistribution

"If someone wants to just follow market moves, then buy and hold is the answer and there is no need to use any technical analysis." LOL!! Maybe someone doesn't want to follow every damn market move, just the ones that lead to profits. :p

Technical Analysis Has Contributed To A Massive Wealth Redistribution

Michael Harris is the most laughable quant I know about. Read the PDF on his p-indicator. It has to be some kind of prank. Nobody reasonable could take that thing seriously.

Why are System Traders Vilified by Discretionary Traders?

I disagree. The clash isn't between discretionary and systems or between systems and gamblers. It's between discretionary and mechanical. As a mechanical trader, I can trade manually or automatically. Discretionary traders can only trade manually. As a mechanical trader, I necessarily have a...

T/A Fails Time and Time Again - Why?

Do you have any backtests validating the replacement of time with some other variable leading to better trading signals? Can you post one or two? Thanks.

T/A Fails Time and Time Again - Why?

Unless his politics has incredibly done a complete 180, Frederick Foresight is absolutely not stock777.

I'm 21 years old, couldn't enter University, planning to trade full-time.

Means absolutely nothing. The Like system only started about a month before you joined. The large majority of my posts (and I imagine EPrado's posts) were before the fall of 2014. I can count on two hands the number of my old posts that have received likes. Most people only read and like fresh...

That's more than sufficient for trading. I got my timing strategy using only algebra, didn't need to even look at calculus (differential only) until I got deep into optimal position sizing. Best of luck with your trading studies and future success.

Just out of curiosity, what are your math skills?

T/A Fails Time and Time Again - Why?

I can't believe you're taking the position that there's nothing wrong with the math. Math isn't some gift from a higher power, it is simply a man-made tool designed to explain some aspect of reality. And as with any tool, the designs range from very poor to excellent. Ask yourself this: how...

T/A Fails Time and Time Again - Why?

It's not time, it's the math. Time is just the dimension in which change takes place. And the markets are constantly changing. Unless the mathematics is designed to be adaptive to market changes, it will eventually fail no matter how sophisticated it is.

One for the ages: I owe Etrade $106k, ouch.

Given the reckless size this guy used, he was/is a blowup waiting to happen. And he's clearly learned nothing about risk management. All he mentions is setting stops "next time". Screw him, he's a lost cause.
