Not only in "the country" but in "the world" as well. Do they realize that US stock market is the largest casino in the world where millions of traders from all over the world spend their hard-earned money? That this industry is one of leading US export industries? And all this thanks to...

    Market short orders

If I submit a long market order to buy 100-200 shares, I generally expect it to be filled within, say, 10 seconds in 99% cases. This is what usually happens and I think there are even rules about it. What about short market orders? What maximum execution time should I reasonably expect if i...

    1) Banks REQUESTED visas for 21,800 workers. Number of visas they actually RECEIVED is much much less. Because total amount of H1B visas granted in a year is something like 50,000. But the big number looks better in headlines. 2) As the patriotism tsunami takes over the world, America will be...

Call to Arms - We Must Fight the 0.25% Stock Transaction Tax

It actually HELPS pensions and 401k's, because frequent traders on average LOSE money. Most of what they lose goes to commisions, but they also provide liquidity and when a pension fund wants to buy large amount of shares for the long term, there are many short term losers selling to them.

    How to short stocks?

Sorry for newbie question, but I tried to short several stocks, along the Timothy Sykes guidelines, and each time my orders were "disapproved" by the broker. I asked my broker, they mumbled something about NASDAQ threshold list, but these stocks are not on threshold list. Basically they said...

    GOOG: cloud computing

That would be a security disaster. Where I work, most people have passwords like "12345" (of course, written on a yellow note taped to the monitor). And there is nothing that can be done about it. Imagine all corporate secrets readily available to any hacker on the internet.

    marketable track record

It depends on your marketing skills. I know one guy who's got to manage serious money based only on (unaudited) simulation results. He's got no degree but he's very good at talking :) You won't believe how stupid some rich people are.

Open Source Black Box Trade Platform in C#?

Great idea. Additional modules needed: - an Open real time tick server. There used to be OpenTick but it closed down. Data vendors unjustifiably raise prices for tick data, while prices for hardware and bandwidth fall all the time, even in relation to exchange volumes. This can be cooperative...
