If the "optimization" has some actual market logic to it and works relatively consistently with the same settings over various trading vehicles.. then it should be fine. If you are constantly having to change your indicator period numbers, moving averages, or something like blindly setting...

use some sort of reversal entry method to enter the trade - key, V reversal or break of prior high/low .. it is dangerous to just blindly buy at your support number or sell at resistance. basically, you will be fading the trend in all cases and will need tight money management...

Sure, but if you think about it.. if you were unable to produce a winning system with the benefit of hindsight, phantom fills and even logical curve fitting, then the chances of it having a chance to work in real time is abysmal. And of course, no one would risk their money on something...

Yep, buy, borrow, checkout, steal, rent every trading book you can get your hands on and just read .. that is your occupation for the next year. Keep in mind that 90% of the books will be utterly useless, but you don't know which ones will produce you a gem til you try them all.

See if you agree with this statement: If it makes money in a backtest, then it may or may not make money in the future. If it isn't profitable in a backtest, then there's no way in hell it'll make profitable in the future. That should be reason enough to give some validity in testing...

Sounds like you're trying too hard.. systems aren't meant to put up pretty numbers with any regularity unless you're curve fitting over past data .. a simple 200 day MA cross where you buy on the open after a close over the 200, or short below, etc. is probably only about 30% winners but...

Chances are a legitimate developer would be selling you his 2nd or 3rd best systems, that still work .. or rather - "backtest" well. Therefore, they try to make a few bucks off it before the edge goes away or someone posts it to a message board and everyone knows it.

yeah true, it took about 3 weeks for my check to clear when I first opened the account.. now it's worth the $25 wire fee to transfer funds if necessary.
