To successful traders, why haven't you quit yet?

Okay, back on topic. Successful traders really never quit, its just in their blood. For example, Steven Cohen of SAC Capital. Considered one of the greatest emini tape readers, he is a billionaire, has been grilled by the SEC, yet he continues to run his hedge fund/family office. He could of...

Is Day Trading Inferior to Swing Trading?

If you have or want to trade with leverage, day trading is really the only way to go. Swing trading can provide higher % wins, but the overnight risk can wipe you out if leveraged. Just check the some of the posts from last August when the market opened way down. Some of the unfortunate lost...

    Ideal leverage?

Really depends on your system, capital, and temperament. As an experienced trader, I don't like big draw downs, but I also hate leaving money on the table. I use about 5:1 leverage of my available 10:1 prop leverage. Temperament (and experience) is holding me back, but I am working on upping...

An open source software that can handle data feed from eSignal,IQFeed etc

There was, Tradelink. Code is available, but support does not exist. I use it with IQ Feed and Sterling API.

What's the single thing you've done that's improved your results?

I beg to differ on the day trading. Using a quant approach, diversified systems, and reasonable (prop) leverage, great returns with risk control. Best part is not waking up to a market crash like the open last September.

    Neural Networks Revisited

You have to watch out with the term noise. Sometimes what appears to be noise is really a signal. I do not advocate the use of moving averages as the input for neural nets - you can be removing useful information.

    Neural Networks Revisited

Just want to give my 2 cents on neural networks in trading. I use one neural network (along with 6+ other mechanical systems) to day trade etfs. Here is a screen shot of one of my best models. It has just three inputs with a one day time horizon (I prop trade with no overnight positions). My...

Sterling Trader Pro API - Cut position if MAX loss hit

I can share it, but it is in Tradelink/C#, not in Sterling API code. Unfortunately Tradelink is no longer supported, and I now only use it to set intraday limit and stop orders.

Sterling Trader Pro API - Cut position if MAX loss hit

I tried this in the API when I was trading multiple positions, but there would be too much lag. I found that just keeping an eye on it is the best way to do it.

    Fully Automated Algorithm - Ninjatrader

You really don't want to run an algo completely unattended. You have to find a way to keep an eye on it. Platforms crash, beginning algos have errors, data gets interrupted, etc. I always keep an eye on my trading PC from anywhere with GoToMyPC.

    Falcon Trading Computer

Those do look good. Two years ago I got a Dell dual quad core server off lease on ebay for $600. With 8 cores and server memory, it has plenty of power and has never crashed. True the memory access is slower than a gaming computer, but probably the main reason that it does not crash. With IQ...

Paul Tudor Jones Hit With $1 Billion In Redemptions

With the New York pension fund pulling out of hedge funds, dark days are ahead. This industry will most likely start shrinking after years of steady growth.

Does anyone daytrade ETF's for a living?

I day trade volatility ETFs (XIV,VXX,SVXY,UVXY) for a prop trading firm. Plenty of opportunity.

    Sterling Lite

It looks like a stripped down version. Why use it?

Should I move to Tradestation ?

While I use tradelink to execute trades in Sterling API, I use Amibroker and Multicharts.net for research. I was very impressed with NinjaTrader as its extremely fast, but opted for MC since I had formerly been a Tradestation user.

Make money on the financial markets or Let the profits take care of themselves

Trading looks good. I couldn't tell from your results, but if you have multiple positions open at one time, the risk can really add up. Also, futures can really be brutal with adverse moves. Make sure to have your stops in early.

How much did you save up before you decided to trade full time?

I want at least $300k cash before I go full time. I prop trade remotely (and also work), so I get the benefits, and risks, of leverage. I want the money for liquidity as draw downs never come at a good time. I am starting too see the conflicts of doing both as my positions get larger. I am...

    Prop Trading without Day Trading?

I fall under option 1. My feeling is option 2. is rare, unless your a top minted hedge fund graduate, but that can be a totally different job than prop trading. What is the advantage to option 1 as compared to being a retail trader? The answer is the availability of leverage, plus better...

    Prop Trading without Day Trading?

I disagree that there are 'two types' of prop firms. Typically the ones that do not require an investment have very tight risk parameters, so its difficult to make a decent living starting out. Many traders build up there capital account (first loss money) so they can increase their positions...
