    RBOB Crack Spreads

60 tic average true range and has been a dream to trade, very faithful to it's trend bias. RBOB Crack has been very consistent for clients since about February. HO Crack will lay low until October or so. ICE Gas/Oil Crack - legged 1:1 versus Brent using an automated spread execution...

    Metals Spreads

I have some clients who are really lighting up the intra-market metals spreads on Comex and LME. Platinum-Gold, Aluminum-Copper, Zinc-Lead. Just killing it.

Crude Oil (CL Large Contract) Spread Trading

There isn't much out there on crude oil calendar spreads. My best piece of advice is to keep up to speed on the rolling 30-day average true trading range and let that dictate your risk/reward targets, holding period, and technical setups.

    International Trading Group

That's not the firm located in Glenview, IL. By the way, lots of upheaval and failed business models with the older Chicago prop trading business model. Fading the yield curve no longer a viable proposition.

If you want to fail as a trader, study TA

I love TA and couldn't possibly make a living without it. The biggest mistake I see new clients making is that they are using the wrong study sampling period timeframes for the market space they are looking at. They are also using the default 'close' setting for timeframes - that's junk also.

    Pair Trading Strategy Journal

My traders bought XOM vs. BP this morning 15 minutes after the open per the model, but got out way too soon because the 20 day ATR on the damn thing is only 90 cents. 3 dollars later they are feeling a bit melancholy (more like pissed), but that's earnings seasons for 'ya. Blew through the...

    Pair Trading Strategy Journal

My strength and proficiency has been and continues to be with interest rate and commodity spreads like currencies, softs, metals and energy - futures, bilateral OTC, and cash. So, I do not present myself as a pairs expert per se. Having said that, there are some ET members who actively trade...

    Pair Trading Strategy Journal

Dr. Who: You have every right to your opinion, and I share your cynical viewpoint on educators. But you have no right or basis to calling me 'underhanded'. I routinely get PMs from ET members telling me that my posts are useful, and many of my clients are ET members. My clients perform...

    Pair Trading Strategy Journal

I just signed two very experienced pairs traders (including a former MS trader) as private individual clients this week, so it might be possible for me to add a bit of color to the thread in the future. On another note, a proprietary trading firm in New Jersey just took out an exclusive...

    Automated Trading Software

I have some personal contacts at a large NYC black box hedge fund, and asked him about Java - he confirms that they are currently hiring Java developers, and getting their existing C++ programmers certified for Java. So, on the downside this thread has really shown my ignorance about Java...

    Automated Trading Software

lol: I don't use the WebICE or the ICEMaker applications because it doesn't support the level of automation and speed myself and some of my clients require. I have no use for the ICE front end's stock order matching implied pricing strategies. That's just me - take it or leave it. If you are...

anyone using nymex membership to save cost? what are the savings than non-member?

Yum: ComEd was institutional; all bilateral OTC requires a monstrous balance sheet. I was told by ComEd fifteen years ago not to pick up the phone if the counterparty didn't have a $200M letter of credit on file. Given what has transpired since in the OTC energy markets, the $200M...

Correlation: WTI crude and S&P 500

Balm: I am doing just fine financially - thank you very much. And no, I don't need to teach. I was so enslaved to trading that I didn't get around to finally getting married until I was 35 and had some serious jingle in the pocket. I am in my late 40's now with 3 school-age kids, and I no...

    Bone Notes

I just wanted to pass along some general observations about trader tendencies I have gleaned from some of the consulting clients I have taken on. Generally speaking, I try to filter prospects for ruinous baggage (incredibly self-destructive habits). If I get the sense that a prospect has one...

Correlation: WTI crude and S&P 500

In terms of fundamentals, I construct relative value spread trades that are fundamentally correlated - for example, Walmart vs. Target as an equity pair or the Swiss Franc currency versus the German Bund 10 year Note. Once I have established that fundamentally-driven relationship, I apply...

    Suggest a good forex workshop

I really can't recommend a singular 'book' per se on spread trading, since I have never been able to find a text to be the definitive reference on the topic (like Murphy on Technical Analysis). "Trading Pairs" by Whistler is great if you don't bias yourself torwards CFD and concentrate on...
