fake linearity of life and complacency of people

Good thread. Agree with all the above. Most are lemmings to the sea....and the 5% with vision does seem like an interesting number, seems as though only about 5% of the population will become millionaires......any correlation, hmmmmmm.?????

Look carefully at your IB login page... both 1099's for the old and new account should be there. I had a 1099 revised by IB and my old account 1099 disappeared (when it was there previously) leaving only the universal account, but no info on the 1099 about my old account. Still getting it...

Tradelog counts shorts as sells for "gross sale proceeds"....so they should match up. Verify that you imported any open trades from the previous year into TL BEFORE importing ANY data for that year. I'd guess positions from one year to the next may be one culprit. If you can't hunt it...

    quick question about DIVIDENDS

I might have miss-read your post. If you were short overnight from 6-1 to 6-2, the you DO owe a dividend.

    quick question about DIVIDENDS

You would only pay the dividend if you were short overnight from 6-1 to 6-2. Looks like you shorted on the ex. div day (6-2)....so you shorted when it was trading "without dividend" & you DO NOT OWE a short sale dividend payment.

Is There Such a Thing as a CONSISTENTLY Profitable Trading System?

Yes, a tortise does win the marathon though the mine field. -Commissions eat up 30-45% of total gains, losses take another 15%. I get to keep about 50% of gains BEFORE taxes when the dust settles. --A steep hill to climb. Net Net it still comes out very very nice. -I can take legs off...

Is There Such a Thing as a CONSISTENTLY Profitable Trading System?

Good questions, but it I answered fully....I'd be out of business, but here's a taste: 1)I often arbitradge pairs that have a 95% or better correlation. 2)Track 175 at a time...but trade 40-125. Use IB & esignal + MANY monitors. 3)Trades are all manual 4)Use to never holder over....but...

Is There Such a Thing as a CONSISTENTLY Profitable Trading System?

Candletrader....that statement works as well. You can be skeptical, I don't mind.....but don't be openly hostile. A good system over years is indeed a rare thing so skepticism and questions are fine. Explore, but don't discount them, even though the chance of occurrence is probably less than...

Is There Such a Thing as a CONSISTENTLY Profitable Trading System?

Metooxx is correct, most good trading systems are terminal when size comes into play. I'm quickly aproaching terminal mass with my system, the maximum size that it can contain is somewhere near $10mm in orders....after that I believe % returns will fall off drastically. (But at that point...

Is There Such a Thing as a CONSISTENTLY Profitable Trading System?

Yes, 7 years trading, I pulled out my data since everyone is about dumb founded by the statement .....I had a handful and a half of losing days....8 total. It does seem impossible, but I assure you it is simply a function of extremely tight risk managament & large size spread out through many...

Is There Such a Thing as a CONSISTENTLY Profitable Trading System?

Rolegario: Back to your first post on this thread: "In my quest to define a winning trading strategy, I'm obviously worried that all my work will be wasted, and that trading is more of an art form than anything else. So, you can backtest as much as you want, but in the end there is zero...

Is There Such a Thing as a CONSISTENTLY Profitable Trading System?

Trader99 is correct on it getting tougher with size....I now trade about 125 symbols at once (40-50 are very active). I used to trade only 2 when i first started, and now barely hanging on with 125. The % gain/loss number smooths out even more stable.....but doubling a $1mm or $10mm does indeed...

Is There Such a Thing as a CONSISTENTLY Profitable Trading System?

To heck with Ed Seykota....I've traded exclusively short term in one area for 7 years, only had a handful of losing days, NEVER a unprofitable week, NEVER an unprofitable month. About 100,000 trades. Average stats: 76% Win, 11% Lose, 13% even. The ways that I've seen virtually all traders...

    Daily Trading Commissions Cost

I trade $2,000-3,000 in commissionsper day at IB ....no other place is cheaper for direct access size. It's the best $2000-3000/day I could possibly spend considering the great service I get.

House cap. gains cut to cap at 15%?

Does anyone know how dividends from mutual funds will be treated? Will they also qualify for the 15% rate?

IB has MAJOR problems with OpenBook recently

Just signed up for esignal last night.....openbook works perfect there.....but still major openbook problems with IB again today.

IB has MAJOR problems with OpenBook recently

I've had massive openbook failure for months through IB. It'll quote only the top or will give a "swiss cheese" look at openbook...only about 20-70% of the total book shows up. It seems to be less of a problem with the more liquid NYSE stocks (or not as readily apparent). All the illiquid...

IB - no daily statements for May 1 and 2

BUNDLEMAKER IS CORRECT. & ALSO AGREE WITH HIM THAT THERE ARE MANY MORONS HERE, WHO NEED TO PAY ATTENTION. REPOST: I believe IB is phasing out the text statements as of 4-30-03, go down to the second set of pulldowns for the statements...you can view your statements there going...

IB - no daily statements for May 1 and 2

I believe IB is phasing out the text statements as of 4-30-03, go down to the second set of pulldowns for the statements...you can view your statements there going forward. If you use Tradelog to import, you must update it at the tradelog website before importing the new statement format.

Best way to save IB info for tax man

I use TRADELOG to import all trades from IB into the software, I make about 6-7 thousand trades a month.....so it really comes in handy--it's the greatest thing since sliced bread! Tradelog is from ARMEN software, and also can be found at greentradertax.com (a good CPA). I can't say enough...
