The Anything Down is Up Market.

Sure, this is more or less one of these weird summer blow off rallies. Part of it has to do I think with expiration on Friday. I've traded through these, they can seem irrational. The other thing is that tech earnings were pretty decent in April so this is just a continuation of the May...

Will inflation always bring about a lower dollar?

Yes, inflation is primarily a monetary phenomenon, and the more I look at it so too are currency exchange rate changes. For that reason, I think the days of the dollar's decline are done. It's not that it won't go back to 1.30, but that a break down to 1.40 or 1.50 vs the Euro isn't going to...

    trading tradesports

yeah, I have an account with them. I trade some basball and an occasional economic number. I never looked at their other finance products, like the Dow and so forth. What I do trade I'm happy with the markets I get. It's better to get part of the vig than just giving the whole thing away.

How High Will It Go By Opex Friday?

Don't forget that this is expiration week. These July blow off rallies during this week can be wild. It's been a while since we've had one, probably since 98, but they can seem irrational. One factor that may limit it is that earnings for most companies don't come out till after this week, at...

How High Will It Go By Opex Friday?

It's not worth the pain and aggravation. At the very least, my TXN calls are a partial hedge as my short is in CSCO so if the techs rally any damage will be limited. I also own some of the CSCO 20 calls but they are a poor hedge since they are .70 otm. If the stock gaps a buck, I'm golden but...

    A shoulder to cry on

Yep, I worked a few jobs before starting as a runner on the exchange. I dreaded going into work everyday, but even lowest job on the floor was better than some mind numbing pointless desk jockey position. I actually tried leaving trading 5 years ago. Couldn't do it, I came back and glad I...

How High Will It Go By Opex Friday?

Yes, it would so to speak. Looking through the charts, I see that the SMH is breaking out right here after closing at what looks to be 52-week high.My calls that I bought for nothing might go in the money.

How High Will It Go By Opex Friday?

I have em at 58.90. I hope the market opens lower so I can cover a short from Friday without too much more pain. It seems like the futures at the open are a good contrarian indicator of where the market finishes the day.

Drukes, I probably saw what you did on Tuesday. Of course, it took me until yesterday and a few bucks to admit it. This market is extremely powerfull right here. Oh yeah, and these threads are annoying.

    A shoulder to cry on

HJKL, hang in there, it's only been three weeks. Maybe you could take a few days off or a trip somewhere? That always works for me. I've had a shitty few weeks as this market is tough to trade. Let it go, have no memory(well, not exactly as you are in the learning process). I have to...

    Pacific Exchange to Add Penny

Doesn't the Euronext or the Eurex trade in pennies for equity options? And the spreads will be just as wide with the exception of orders sitting in the book. There was a time when small orders mattered, but now a MM needs to trade size hence the death of the small trader.

    Greeks

You ask some big questions. A good thing to remember is that there is a market for vol just like there is for the underlying. Only it isn't obvious and takes some skill to read. Supply and demand can throw things out of whack sometimes and that's when you have to pounce. Like last week(or...

Delta Neutral strategies not for retail trader?

LoL, actually I didn't interpret your comments as such. And, I could have added what you said but I was lazy. There is a ton work which goes into an analyzing and dissecting positions. I spend a couple of hours each day outside of the normal market hours dealing with this issue because I do...

Delta Neutral strategies not for retail trader?

Yes, you need to trade larger positions, but you have also just significantly reduced one of your major risks by being delta neutral.
