Any advice for a soon to be full-time trader?

Looking forward for you to start your trading career. Have a great holiday! I am starting to trading 1 MNQ next week. I don't regret spending 2 month on the Combine, it's been educational and felt like the real thing. It just felt empty at the end of each day regardless of winning or losing.

    The Theory of Edge Diminishing

I am sorry, I wish I can delete the post. I have no right to speak here among seasoned traders. wiesman02 is right. Thanks for the the discussion. It's been an interesting read.

    The Theory of Edge Diminishing

My edge is a set of indicators on 1 minute chart on the NQ. They generate buy/sell signal the moment the bar finalizes, at the same time updates the SL for any ongoing trades. There are few enough people in the world using it the same way I do to make it still effective. I know this because the...

Trading micros vs prop firm(IE: TopStepTrader)

Thanks, I would love to be able to catch a big move on higher time frames but I use a trend following system and the market rarely move in one direction long enough to profit. There is no way to survive a drawdown like that on the TST program, P/L hit -$1000 and the account is blown. All the...

Trading micros vs prop firm(IE: TopStepTrader)

Thanks everyone. I knew there was something off about these prop firms. They mess with your psych with all the rules and even some seasoned traders can get stuck on their “hamster wheel”. I managed to hit $2k of their $3k target but it feels entirely pointless trading in sim and I am not paying...

Trading micros vs prop firm(IE: TopStepTrader)

Thanks. Basically I should ditch TopStep and stop paying them a monthly tuition. That’s basically what I was trying to figure out.

Trading micros vs prop firm(IE: TopStepTrader)

oh I am not in a financial pressure. I am consider this as taking a permanent break from my career. I been doing it nonstop for 6 years without a vacation since graduation. But I do not want to go back to my IT career, since my backtest profit was twice to 3 times my previous income trading...

Trading micros vs prop firm(IE: TopStepTrader)

Thanks, I joined this forum after seeing another guy who also quit his job and became a day trader. You might have caught a glimpse of his thread. I guess I should prove myself to be profitable with micro and get off the Combine hamster wheel simulator.

Trading micros vs prop firm(IE: TopStepTrader)

The signals are contained in a black box program and not output-able. Plus there are still some discretion required. Automation is something I can look into after I master manual execution.

Trading micros vs prop firm(IE: TopStepTrader)

I used to gamble day trading stocks in my earlier days. $20k all in NVDA back in 2017 and win/loss few hundred to $2k a day. Somehow I didn’t feel much stress back then when I had no system. Now when I know my future will depend it. Everything feels different.

Hi everyone, this is a great forum with a great deal of knowledge and skilled traders, I am thankful to be here. I just want to get your expert opinions on what's the best way to start off my full time trading career. I quit my full time software engineering job to pursuing full time day...

    CFA/Coding/Chinese/DataScience?

All the top performers from my school went to SF and joined one of the tech giants with their $200k+ salary, only few guys like me are staying in Canada getting paid half as much.

    The intraday is a casino

It's not a casino if you can trade off 1 min chart and follow the trend. The market usually has some momentum in one direction and if you can consistently detect the start of a trend and get in you will profit over long time.

Stay away from CS if you didn't start programming when you are a teenager. Most people won't even make it through the undergrad program. I graduated from an engineering school called University of Waterloo with a CS and let me tell you, I am still having PTSD from all the nearly failed exams and...

Any advice for a soon to be full-time trader?

I would say it's fully non-discretionary when it comes to entering a trade, some discretion is required for setting the stop loss and making sure it's not too tight(my system produces multi levels of S/R and the rule is to pick a level that's one level away from the current S/R as the trailing SL).

Any advice for a soon to be full-time trader?

Sorry I don't want to hijack Howard's thread. Everything I done so far has been paper trading and sim account. That curve was entirely hypothetical assuming perfect execution and fills and $4 per round trip trade. For each of the paper trade, I marked the exact point where I take a position on...

    CFA/Coding/Chinese/DataScience?

Hi Shi Fu, from your English style, I speculate that you are also of Chinese background. I seen your posts and I know you have done a great deal on ML and algo trading and are already hugely successful. I respect you a lot. I can't automate it right now because the indicators I use are not free...

Any advice for a soon to be full-time trader?

Thanks for the reply. I have no worries about my trading system. This is the hypothetical equity curve of my system since Aug 20, based on trading 1 NQ contract. I have a daily record of all the trades my system generated and I recorded them manually into a spreadsheet to produce the following...

    CFA/Coding/Chinese/DataScience?

I am 30 year old, Chinese Canadian living in Toronto, came here as a child when I was 10. I have been a software engineer for 6 years and I recently finally quit that career 4 weeks ago for full time trading. It was a 6 figure career and I was eager to get out of it due to the boredom and...
